A lot of people have been asking how powerful the YN560 is w.r.t the 430ExII so did some quick test.
Sorry for the eyesore scene, but I went down and dirty and just pulled the car out of the garage to make some room.

These were taken in the dark at 1/200, F/11, ISO100. Converted from RAW to JPEG in DPP without adjusting anything.

I think it's clear who the winner is. The 430EXII seems to be brighter (I don't have a lightmeter so don't really know exactly how much, but from the samples above, seems like 2/3rds to a whole stop. But the shots at 105mm show the 560 is brighter at the center.

All the photos were taken on tripod with the 18-55IS at 18mm.

My impressions: The buttons on the YN560 are very convenient and allow quick changing of settings. The built of the body is similar to the 430EXII with really good quality. The bad quality feel comes once you look into the flash head, especially if while the head is zooming in or out.

Great recycle time, really nice slave modes (one of them to handle pre-flash from other sources).

YN560:

Pros: A lot of features
+ it tilts down unlike the 430EXII.
+ Built in slave.
+ Great build quality.
+ I paid $77 only.

Cons:
- Zoom head seems fragile, although I'm only talkign about the feel, who knows how durable it might be.
- Not as powerful as expected.

Your garage looks cleaner than most people's living rooms!

Approved

Oh, thanks for sharing this... I have been contemplating for years now for a decent flash. But then again, flashes get outdated as fast as cameras probably. Besides, I know Zilch about flash photography.

Haha, naa it really needs to be cleaned.

After some wait, I have finally received my very basic (and cheap) strobist setup. More shots to follow.

I have the cords, but for two flashes, I prefer the wireless TX/RX! It is AWESOME. I'll show you some shots of what radio triggers can do that cords cannot.

I think we really need a "How to Tutorial" for flashes and Lights!

I don't think I'm anywhere close to qualified to give a tutorial yet, but I'll be more than glad to share my results and experiences here as I experiment.

Save up for it dude, they're $56 for one transmitter and two receivers on ebay. I don't know what the shipping cost would be to Pune, but it's usually free.

56*45 = INR2520! (approx). CMON MAN! Skip some parties ;) and save those Rs.2500! In fact I would recommend getting 3 receivers as backup.

Already skipping parties!:p
the cost starts to mount upwards when you also take into consideration the light stands, brackets and stuff.hell.

Aiming for the 602.Till that time ill deal with the misfiring of my pc sync off camera.

Light stands aren't absolutely necessary to get started, as you know, just get the triggers and bounce off of walls!

Diffusers! Those cheap plasticky kind.

About the range, haven't done any tests myself but don't think would have done any better than this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/malowzz/3894905399/
