Love everything about it... the unconventional crop, the shallow dof, the B/W conversion... in the end, the dry chapped cheeks and the misty eyes leave you intrigued...

Great capture!

Thanks Vicky! :)
That was my first shot at 'evening light' photography.
Was shot at ISO 800 to give it that old school look :)

Btw, nice shots Ana, Sandeep, Ketan and Emile!

Yes it does .Photographying small kids need a lot of patience but has its cute results . I could only manage some 7-8 decent results from a set of around 50- so you can imagine...

Great shot, Xavier. i'd have cropped the sides to make it squarer, though. The tiny bit of foliage isn't big enough to be a compositional element and is distracting from the subjects, IMO.

Xavier, Excellent shot and good treatment! Why is he so moody?

Hillpanther, great expression of joy on the kids face, captured well. But the flash is spoiling things slightly by casting those shadows and glares.

Xavier, Excellent shot and good treatment! Why is he so moody?

Thanks Titus :)
Well, he's a very active child. This was one of those 'silent' moments and was shot at 300mm, hence he didn't even know that he was being clicked.

Yes, I did see the exif, that it was shot at 300mm. You are getting very good results with the 70-300 sigma. I wish I could too!

the near perfect is because that wooden area to her left is almost washed out.she was sitting there morning 7:30am helping her father out setting up shop.her father went somewhere so she sat idle for 5mins.that's when this was taken.i agree on the part of nothings happening..cause theres nothing "striking" about it.its special for me since the look was only once.just when u get up and have to run hurriedly to do something..she was that half waken up.

@Ken Da: Thanks. Another shot from my end:

The only thing I was trying to portray was serenity. Also, innocence and vulnerability - Suraj, a young kid who gathers garbage the whole day, looks at the lens acutely.

There are umpteen kids like him, who work hard all day long on the streets of Delhi, just to earn about 70 rupees a day!

Very nice and cute!

Here is a shot of a baby at the Gateway hotel:

The naughty boy was so conscious - he was not even giving a half decent smile when the camera was on.

PS: Again - rule of 3rd used. Feel free to edit/suggest a better crop or processing.

Sorry, but I think the camera metered for the bright background leaving the main subject underexposed by more than 2 stops! Either partial metering on the kids face or a little bit of fill flash would have really helped this shot!

Vicky,

Interesting. I underexposed by a full stop in post, as well as pulled down brightness, added blacks because I found the kid's face a bit over exposed on my laptop. But I agree - his face is fairer than this image would depict!

or is it my screen - I am fed up of how my images look on the LCD!

No. Not unnoticed. First one is well framed. But I do not like Sepia treatment. Never liked it. Even when the B/W shots turned old!

But that is just a personal thing. There are people who like Sepia.
