HEllo guys!!!
Need your advice on buying a new DSLR. I am upgrading from a P&S.
Please advice me a good camera in the budget of around 30K INR +-5K
i have selected these two:1000d or 450d or 500d(if i really need to)
video recoding or not doesnt matter me much.

now some questions i have in my mind

Is the difference between 1000d and 450d or 500d image quality marginal??
or should i go for 450d?
or should i spend my money on buying a good lens with 1000d?
or there is any other option?

I will most probably upgrade my camera(body) in next 1-1.5 yrs so please keep that in mind while suggesting any thing

how much is the diffrence between the three price wise and also the image quality wise?

I know what is the technical difference between them, but what i am curious to know is the difference between the image quality in general usage.

Guys please also tell me where i should buy the cam in delhi?? address and phone number will be very much appreciated.

THnks and regards
KEshav Rana

Choice of Camera Discussion Approved

One suggestion would be thus... if you are actually looking for a camera upgrade in the next 1 year, you should go for a 2nd hand 400D for 15K odd with kit lens and buy another decent lens worth 20K. That would prepare you for your upgrade later.

but from what i have heard, the 1000D stands in the middle of the two i.e. 450d and 400d, at least spec wise. + where can i get a good reliable deal on a secondhand 400d???

Keshav, my $0.02:-

1) For better or best quality images, you need a better or best quality lens. That is far more important that the camera body.

2) Since you are upgrading from P&S to a DSLR, I would agree with Ken and suggest that you get a 2nd hand camera and learn the tricks before upgrading to a better body within the next year or two.

3) Local camera shops, local professional photographers (they often upgrade their body/systems), eBay India, friend/forum members can help you source a good 2nd hand camera body.

4) After zeroing in on a body, try to find the areas of photography that holds your interest and try finding the best lens for the purpose. Then you can spend your hard earned cash on them & they will last you for a lifetime. ;)

Hi,

I am not sure whether you are a newbie like me or someone who has done there homework well in term of photography. When I purchased my camera, I just wanted to get a DSLR. Being very honest i had save cashed and just went ahead and took the camera having no clue what i was getting into. Its requires a lot of time, most of them would tell you the same thing and trust me they are right.
With regards to the camera body, think what you want to get into. Photography has a lot of fields in itself, each field requires a different setup. If you could specify what interest you, i think the experts here would be able to help you out in a much better way.
As the previous suggestions go, invest in the lens.

Spend some time learning PP and composition.

As for camera, buy the cheapest used one on a budget. The camera is mostly never the constraint for awesome shots for the average user.

Both Brands are actually neck to neck offering models in ranges from hell to heaven.

It all comes down to actually going to the shop, fiddling with the camera and purchasing the one that you like.

450D as of now is discontinued. So getting first hand is difficult.

550D is one nice choice to start off considering it has features from its biggie the 7D.

a. Choose IS anyday.
b. I would recommend the Nikon D3000. Just FEELS so much better.

As for price, like I said elsewhere.

@Tukuta: Like Tau says above, I would say go for the 18-55mm IS. It would serve you better under certain circumstances. However, I am not sure how the D3000 is as I have seldom used Nikon cameras. Canon is all that I have used, always.

At approx similar prices, the Nikon FEELS better, the shutter sound is oh so music to my ears and the unprocessed SOOC JPGs are that much better.

ofc, if you get a good canon bundle by all means pickup the 5x0D :)

like ken said, go for a used 450D or 400D body and spend your money for lenses, decide what kind of photography you are planning to capture and get some good lenses for that, the body is not an important getting good lenses is important, are you looking for canon only ? if not try nikon D60 body or D40 i think its enough for a DSLR beginner, i started photography using nikon D60 only

No, don't get the D40 or D60. They are simply a generation behind. Especially the AF. If you're going Nikon, the D3000 or D5000 is definitely THE entry level DSLRs to go for.

If you're going Canon, get the IS lens. It definitely is worth the premium.

for that price range canon is hard to beat In my opinion .specially with the kind of lenses one can use with canon .D3000 doesn't have AF motor and non of the AF-D lenses (like cheapest 50mm 1.8 ) will auto focus with it .

and stay away from D40 and D60 if you can spend that much .

No robin. Grass is greener on the other side. My 50mm has a torrid time focusing.

Its just a bloody pain compared to the 18-55 which is slower but more predictable.

But in that budget, our man can get a D90 gray body, no? :D

for D90 the price difference between Grey and White is just a couple of thousand.... six mionths back the difference was 15K...

On buying with bill a Free 4GB memory card and a Kit bag is available for free...check out the below link...

now the price of D90 has been done right by Nikon India . previously it was just too unbearable to buy from them .

I will suggest getting directly from Nikon India if you aren't gonna upgrade in next two years (not like me who updates after every 8 months or so lol)
