the Nikon D90 and the pentax KX have the same sony sensor giving exceptional noise control.(KX being slightly above)
That said do keep a watch on the color reproduction.some D90 users said that they witnessed color problems.
Other than that you have got a great cam.

Pentax k-x in the league of D5000 and not D90.
It has been understood that the noise control of D90 is better than D300 and D300 has better noise control than K-7which is the Pentax flagship (forget about K-x).
Noise control is not only from the sensor but from the algo as well which is prop to the brands.

Can you please share source of this info? And what was the problem?
I have read 1000 immature reviews about D90 over the net. I have concluded that the coconuts have fallen into the hands of monkeys. The camera demands the user to have prior experience in DSLR to understand the flexiblility in feature it offers.
Understanding D90 is no kids job. Since the price is reasonably affordable, hence the complaints from amateurs and first time DSLR users.
D40/D60/D5000/D3000 are recommended camera for them.

Pentax KX has the same sensor as that of D90.It directly competes with D90.the Pentax KX beats D90 in noise.the D90 beats Kx in AF and being Nikon.the KM/K2000 is like the D5000.
Pentax K7 directly competes with D300 and Canon 50D.
Pentax K7 has better "detail" than D300 considering noise.Pentax has always been running on the detail side when considering noise.its like detail with noise.be it K10D or K20D.

Sometimes user reviews are way better than official since user reviews can easily say "this product SUCKS!"official reviews run on company money.

Would love to hear the same from 'expert' review from any 'trusted' sites like dpreview.com.
OR.
If any personal end-to-end review keeping all the cam side by side would help.
Pentax K-7 as well as Canon 50D does not directly competes with D300. Compare a Canon 7D with D300. Pentax has no camera in that league.

Would be nice if someone research on this 'Dont know why' part. How it got changed is another question I was about to ask.

Still I would love to hear the source. Search on Google, there may be many reviews stating D3x/1Ds sucks LOL!. Or for that matter a hasselblad sucks.
Looong back I have seen people saying a 85mm f/1.4 sucks. Sorry I dont have the source of this info LOL!.

Dpreview has always been biased to Olympus,Sony,Pentax and Fujifilm. Not defending my point but simple fact.they have made numerous errors in their reviews themselves which were later rectified by members from the respective talk forum. The Bashing Vs Defending goes on infinity.
As of Now Video has caught up huge.so invariably the 50D has made quits according to people.
and from the 'trusted review site'
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxk7/page22.asp
straight K7 vs D300s vs canon 50d.the comparison is from the nearest price point.who wins depends on photographer to photographer and his intention of purchase.
Would be nice if someone research on this 'Dont know why' part. How it got changed is another question I was about to ask.ill be waiting for this.

It would be better if all the arguments posted with image samples.... Ha Ha.
How about getting sponsorship from the manufacturers....?

I will also join.....the argument...

K-X is newer, has better processing algorithm. It's unavoidable that it has better IQ. it's not about the sensor, it's the algorithm. The D90 is several years old now without any major FW updates while the K-X is fresh into the market. When the D90 successor comes out, you can bet it will have much better noise control.
That said, the reasons for choosing the D90 over the K-x are many. It's a higher class camera, offers much more controls and settings and so on. A more serious user would be better off with a body that has the most options for fine tuning and control.
That said do keep a watch on the color reproduction.some D90 users said that they witnessed color problems.
Never heard of this or seen this first hand.
Then again, I shoot RAW and don't really give a darn about in camera color profiles and so on. Touch wood, I've had no problems telling red from blue in post in any Nikon (or Canon for that matter) body I've handled till date.
Dpreview has always been biased to Olympus,Sony,Pentax and Fujifilm. You can't be biased in OBJECTIVE tests.
Up until the K-x, Pentax was a non-player on the image quality front and that's a fact.

discussion and arguments without images
Till now I haven't had any colours issues with my D90 ,but like Synn, I also shot in "RAW" only .So, in camera mode colours setting doesn't matter a lot .
anyway ,whatever the arugments there maybe against pentax or Nikon or Canon .Its not gonna easily convert Canon into Nikon or Nikon into pentax

I agree to this completely boss, I said it the first day that I need to understand it fast. There a just too many features to understand, set and control to have a picture the way you want. I am completely new to DSLRs still I feel its way too flexible on its features.

May be, you can't make everyone happy - I can attribute it to their expectations and not fully understanding the features. I feel it interprets color perfectly but still D90 has a very flexible Picture Control, if the presets don't work for you, just have your own. You can control every aspect of the color control, I customized the Vivid for a more sharper more colorful output to test. Will put up some images for us to compare soon.

It would help me atleast to try similar settings and learn.

Thanks for the info. I like the Vivid mode very much as I get quite vibrant colors. Any considerations or points that I should keep in mind regarding the Picture Mode and the WB?
This one was taken with CPL on
Picture Control: Vivid
WB: Sunlight

Next one I just enhanced the Vivid for more color saturation and sharpness.

while shooting in JPEG remember to keep the WB set to the environment...
RAW is better... if you have time for PP...
Avoid Vivid while shooting... d90 in-camera PP provides a option to change it later.
18-105 lens is great in image clarity at all focal length...but produces barrel distortion at wide angles... so a closeup at wide angle needs correction (available in the camera, D90 has the lens profile stored in it)...
rest is fun....

Well getting back to the controversy again one of my friend is finding it hard to decide between Pentax Kx and Nikon D5000. I have no much ideas about other SLRs but do Pentax have a good range of lenses like Nikon or Canon? Sony has very limited lenses I know.
In India, stick to the tried and tested. The big C and N, that is. The reasons have been made clear several times in this forum.

I agree....
debangshu,
There are a few strong reasons for which I selected D90 over D5000... My priority was usability, not minute level pixel details.
May be your friend can consider them...
Main reasons
1) Sub Command Dial in the Front.... very useful in Manual Mode..
2) Inbuilt Motor for auto focusing using AF Lens (Ex: AF 50mm f1.8/F1.4)
3) Dedicated LCD on top for instant Viewing of setting
4) Almost all buttons for camera Setting is available to your fingers + one configurable button which I set to select AF Points Selection Type.
As soon as you buy (every one will buy I know, you cannot resist) the AF 50mm lens you will recover half of the extra money you paid for D90 over D5000. (D5000 will not auto focus on AF Lens)
If money is an issue for a D90 Kit.... you can start with D90 body with 18-55 lens or 50mm lens. Later if required can go for a 18-105mm.

I appreciate you boss, I had few similar thoughts while going for D90 but not so deep as you. Wow. Thats a handsome lot of options. Thanks.
