The 5th B/W looks really good. Very well composed. Some of the others I would hardly consider "street"!

Some are overly sharp, what type of sharpening are you using?. And I would hardly categorize them into either street or journalism in the true sense.

the first one would have been a lot better if it were a low angle shot exposing a better part of the man's body. Currently it is in between a silhouette and a photo. Eyes cant decide whether to try and find the details in the underexposed man or appreciate the sky.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3096/3122522574_5e6d693580.jpg?v=0<--is the most decent of the lot above.

A few pictures from my side. I am not so sure whether these would classify as "street photographs" or not, but here they are. :)

P.S: The first two photographs are clicked from a moving autorickshaw. :o

@Aryan: Totally qualify as Street! Have seen those ones before. The first two and the 4th one are very well composed. But then the focussing is not spot on. You probably already know this. The first and the 4th are recounting a lot of stories.

Thanks. I am focussing more on doing some "street photography" these days. Just getting to learn the more and more I click. :)

Street/Experimental it says..

I've been looking for a style to tag them and most of the experienced guys on deviantart tag it as the street/photojournalistic experimental style..thats why i used the term

(from what i've read on POTN, the genre can cross into other street-side things too..Though nothing is hard and fast..Its just a loose defination...

overly sharp as in which ones?
I use edge-based unsharpening at around 1.0 50-70% if needed..not necessarily..rebel on sharpness value 0

1.Why do some of your pix look like they got vignetting? Is it deliberate?

1.Yup. Deliberate, rather, Necessary for the photograph, for me, as a photographer.
2.Nope

Not that I'm even remotely relating to him but I have a very Ansel Adam-ish approach to B&Ws...He used vignetting extensively..As part of his story telling..

This qualifies as Street. But there are too many things cluttering up your photograph. I cannot make out your subject/principal point of interest. If the violinist is your protagonist, then at the same time I am also being drawn away towards the chateau kind of structures behind.

OT: Btw: this looks like an anglo-saxon set up. Where is this?

@aryan: you are right.....

This is Edinburgh, Scotland. What you see in the back "chateau kind of structures behind" is the Edinburgh Castle.

The idea was to capture the Violinist with the castle under sunlight as a backgound. The others on the street were enjoying a food festival.

This was captured using a Kodak Z700 (PnS).

What would you recommend for situations like these? What could i have done to get a better picture?

The first one does, the second one? Ummm, I wouldn't be so sure. In my opinion, street photography looks best in monochrome. Try it out on your pics, they'll look a lot different. Oh and the 2nd pic is confusing, cause one wouldn't know what you want to focus on, the bike or the kids. If it were both, a close up would have worked better.

For example, given the current photograph, for me this works better:

Hi Aryan,

I think you are shooting on the manual mode, possibly loosing the focus on the subject or not precisely able to keep the flow going through. You possibly need a little more sharpness going into the focus or the subject.

Cheers

Thanks Freebird for pointing that out. I'll try to do better next time, for sure. :)
