So i went and got a cheap Lens hood for the Canon's 18-55 Kit lens.its the screw type and fits well into my UV filter
But turns out tht the edges of the Hood are visible at certain focal lengths?:(
Am i doing something wrong?

Thank you

I can suggest a solution. But this depends on how much of the hood is showing. You can try screwing on the hood first on to the lens and then the filter on to the hood, that is of course if the hood does have grooves in the first place!

The edges of the hood would be showing from 18mm onwards evidently.

Hi Ranjith,

IMHO, the 18-55mm lens never comes with a lens hood as the front element of the lens rotates, changing the position of the hood. You can always put the lens hood from 50mm prime lens or others (same size), but it will cause vignette effect. This is why, camera manufacturers don't ship the 18-55mm with a hood.

You can't tackle the vignetting from the hood, but sometimes it gives a very creative appeal to your images. I hope this clarifies. :)

@Ranjith: I also tried a 'local' lens-hood for the 18-55mm and gave up immediately. The reason being the lens hood is actually visible from the edges at 18mm! :p :D
