Is there some kind of rule thread or something? I need to know what we're dueling for?!
Here's my entry : Taken Dec 30th 2005. Its taken from my friend's borrowed A510.

Straight out of the cam, leaving it as is. I know, it's just begging to be PPed.

The only thing at stake is your honour. And the rules are stated thus:
The game is simple and is a fight for honour! You start a thread with a theme and a photo, the other members will follow it up with their own photos on the same theme as their reply, and the game goes on...
Note: Only replies with photos and adhering to the original thread starter's theme will be approved.

That desert location has soooo much potential, Tau.
I urge you to go back there with a UWA and shoot pretty close to the rear wheel with a slight angle (Hope you're getting what I'm saying).

Very pleasing frame. However:
- A lot of shadow detail has been lost. Try working on the original file to bring it back.
- I see evidence of oversharpening. Don't hamfist the unsharp mask! :D
- The white balance is a tad on the warmer side.

All I got was the pic is a bit to over sharpened. :D Rest more or less went at Mach4 over my head :D
I'll try and post the original in the evening to get ideas.
Any ideas to stabilize the tripod, apart from upgrading it :D I'd left the cam on self timer for about 10secs and still the image is blurry.:(

Shadow detail as in: Dark areas are too dark. ;)
White balance as in: The image is a bit too reddish-yellow (Not talking of the bike's color. If there's a pure white segment in the image, it'd turn up as reddish-yellow).
As for the tripod: If it's a pan/tilt, hanging a weight from the central cross member helps with stability.

I have a theory.
There's something about those antique old school looks, those oodles of chrome, the sheer simplicity, the lack of aerodynamics that turns well reasoning men into unreasonable boys when confronted with the choice of purchasing one of these babies.
It is just simply unexplainable by any logic!
shutterbug
11-07-2009, 03:21 PM
I get it you ain't too fond of it. Right, Tao?
What can I say, maybe its because of getting tired of bikes which have poverty when it comes to cubic capacity and are indulgent in plastic and acronyms! I don't think RE or its products are excellent, but there's not much of an alternative in our nation.
But then if you want some logic, sheer torque and comfort.Good for lazy guys like me!
Enough OT, he he!
By the way the shot is SOOC.

I want real cubes. I want horses, well fed arabian horses. 500 cubes giving me 28 measly horses on a almost 200kg frame - no way. Give me an old decently maintained 400cc Jap and I'll run circles around such bikes anyday!
I admire the styling no doubt. My problem is that bullet as a bike sells for reasons other than the performance. its a crying shame they don't improve things - or even make the base package stable (how about the innumerable sprag clutch issues in 500LB?)
shutterbug
11-08-2009, 09:34 AM
Vicky, Thank you!!! Why I havent done PP:
1. i am not too good at it.
2. i dont have PS at the moment. Had to uninstall for certain reasons, and now I cant find the set up file.
Tao, I agree with you on almost all counts. But the problem is- you dont have an option! We dont have 400cc bikes selling here! All we have now is a 3 lac 250cc twin, which is out of reach for many.
Moreover, I dont see the Bullet as a bike to run circles around anything! Relaxed riding, thats it.
Reliability part, yes there are lots of issues( I still dont have one, living my good ol Pulsar 180) inc sprag clutch issue on LB500, oil leaks on CI 350 etc, but things have improved.
Its quite the opposite of the RTR180 ad for me, "Why do I race?", you dont want to race with anyone, nor does anyone to pick on you either, you just mind your business and cruise along on this motorcycle.

one single flash.
fired from left right and behind bike.
merged together.
Hmm! Food for thought.
Merged together or long exposure and you fired all three flashes during the exposure?

dada,
then why did you take multiple shots n merge?

my apologies for wrong information.
I have only "one" single off camera flash.the flash is a Honeywell Strobonar 100 from my friend.
since i have a single flash in my hand which has zero manual controls(ie no 1/32 1/16 etc)the flash outputs full power boom.so my options are to play with the shutter aperture ISO etc.
that is the reason 3 individual shots where one shot shot fired from left then right then from behind bike and then merged together.
recently i got one more flash. a vivitar 283 from my friend.initial testing showed that the vivitar is putting more power than the honeywell.
both the flashes need to be actually manually triggered.no radio no sound nothing.so its a different world altogether.

You do know that a full power setting managed by changing aperture/ss isn't the same as changing the flash power right? It's not just about exposure anymore.. it's about lighting!

know it.and the power makes hell impact.unfortunately i dont have that luxury.
so i think that leaves me with two options.
1.diffusion.
2.relative distance.
can you or the other esteemed persons provide tips for this amateur on how to improve it?

Without another light source, it is going to be all hacky workarounds. You could try light painting. Choose darker settings + long exposures + lighting up your subject by literally walking around it while letting the surroundings gather light from the long exposure.
Diffusion is only going to reduce the already weak(?) flash's power, but yeah, diffusion is the way to go. Try the umbrella style flash from a closer distance.
Something like
(BIKE) (flash pointing away from bike)(white paper/board slightly away from the flash unit) (Camera somewhere on this side hiding the flash and the paper).
The best part is experimentation. I have been holding out on buying more than one flash for some time now, but I should be diving off that cliff soon.
http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/ is obviously your best friend today. :D

thanks for the tip.
the flash is relatively weak in front of the vivitar.but its a good one for portraits.
initial testing did show that this can work as a nice filler.

I too agree with techno here. The pic looks like someone was passing by, took out his cam, clicked a photo and carried on with his work.
The pic would have been unconventional if some different and unique angle was tried. Here the basics have gone awry.

Guys, please post polite & constructive criticism, about this image... (like how could I have shot it better) :)
First and foremost, let me tell you that for a phone camera, this is pretty good.
Now lets get to the critique part.
1. Change the framing. Lots can be done in such a situation. Railway tracks provide umpteen possibilities. But use them to enhance your photo!
2. Change the time of the day. The light out there is HORRIBLE!
3. Change the EV bias of your camera from +.30 to -.30; you will get better colour saturation.
4. Also recommended to set your settings in your camera from sRGB to AdobeRGB.
5. Did I say play around more with the framing? There is so much you can do with railway tracks. If I had railway tracks in my vicinity, I would spend a lot of my waking hours there! :)

Regarding the sharpness part..There wasnt much of natural lighting that time..it may be bcoz of that. :o
Cropping the pic might result in just leaving the bike/rider in the..which wont give it a landscape photo feel..this is what i had thought while framing this pic. :)
