Name: Nitin Gera

Profession: VLSI engineer.

Equipment: Canon A610, Panasonic FZ20, Canon 20D.

Lenses: Canon 18-55 f/3.5-5.6, Canon 50 f/1.8, Canon 10-22 f/3.5-4.5, Canon 100 f/2.8 macro, Canon 70-200 f/4 L, Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6.

Favourite Subjects (of Photography): Landscape/Cityscape, Wildlife, Birding, Street, Macro, everything and anything under the sun.

Intended Objectives: Pursue photography as a profession, and grow old listening to the sound of the shutter.

Background: Discovered my interest in photography when i started touring in 2003. Before that it used the usual family pictures, standing in front of monuments, smiling :). Started with an Olympus D540 (3MP, 3x optical) point and shoot (absolutely no control over exposure, shutter speed and aperture), but a gem of a camera. Ended up loosing it on a trip to Kanyakumari in Dec 2004. Then was without a camera for about 10 months, before i purchased the Panasonic FZ20 (5MP, 12x optical) in Oct 2005. Brilliant lens, but not so brilliant sensor. This was when i started reading about the fundamentals of photography, and experimenting with my cam. Kept clicking with it for about 5 months, and discovered the limitations of it for birding. Mustered up a lot of courage, and plonked in Rs 1L to get the Canon 20D + 3 lenses. I still remember the amazed look on my face, when i took my first shot, a pigeon in flight. The image was so clear and sharp, as compared to the FZ20. I knew i was going to enjoy my time with the 20D. 2.5 years on, still love to hear the sound of its shutter.

You have some great wildlife shots up there. Maybe you can start a discussion on the basics of wildlife, the kind of equipment one may need, the best spots in N India or wherever else you have been, what you would do for mirror noise etc...

Thanks.
