What is the Lets Do it Movement?

Let's do it! initiative was born in a tiny country of Estonia, situated in northern Europe at the autumn of 2007. The idea was born in a conversation between few friends who realized that the roots of the massive illegal dumping habit lie in the lack of responsibility on every level. Things needed to get turned around for the better.

There and then the 'one day, one country' concept was born. Instead of dividing the efforts over an extended period of time, it was time to act now and act together! Co-operation throughout the whole society - involving the state, NGO-s, private enterprises and vast number of active citizens, united the nation and on 3rd of May 2008 more than 50 000 people and hundreds of organizations together cleaned more than 10 000 tons of illegal garbage from the territory of Estonia.

From there, neighboring countries Latvia and Lithuania decided to join in and since then, more and more brave and inspired people from different countries have decided to make it happen for themselves and their people.

Lets Do it Movement has reached Delhi, India!

One look on the streets on India and we all know how dirty and littered they are. I had a chance to photograph and be part of the initiative today at Bhikaji Cama Place.

There were around 1000 people, many of them from corporates like Mr.Muscle, ICICI Bank, Mahindra etc who participated in this intiative.

Bhikaji went a tremendous makeover for the good in three hours, culminating in a nukkad natak (street play) to spread awareness bu another volunteer team.

It was fantastic to see the atmosphere and the team spirit of the people present there. However. MCD was very dissapointing with their few employees just sweeping in order to look participative.

Some photos by me:

Thats a very good initative, provided it opens up the eyes of those who created the mess in the region. Corporate initiatives like this and many more will surely help to get things done good for country at large.

Could not see you in action ....:(

That is a great job Sunny. Some of them are great angles, like 1,2,3,4,7,12,13 and some of them are still loading. I wonder why they look so saturated though! Were you working on a CRT?

Coming to the mess, this country looks like a HUGE dustbin in the first place. And we do not even notice it and nobody really cares. We eat and throw our McDonald plates and glasses from our swanky Honda Civics right out on the roads like nobody's business. And our unhygienic living and the filth around us has made this country the biggest den of diseases!

Thanks Ken. In fact these images are the least edited ones in my recent shoots. Probably the early morning light. The last one does look oversaturated to me though. .

Just got myself a 32" Sony Bravia HD 100Hz monitor (dont call it a TV). Its amazing to work and edit on. Come someday to have a look!

That's a really nice thing. Since beginning to cycle ten days back, I've been increasingly pained about our ugly habits.

In that sense, I was thinking about how to reach out to Gurgaon people - to start a Residents for Roads campaign. Something very simple but totally overlooked.

Gurgaon roads have open channels leaing into storm drains. They are full of leaves and loose dirt. They need to be cleaned up before the monsoon. Was wondering how to reach out to other junta. I am perfectly happy donating a few hours a week to something like this. But Gurgaon needs alot more than that.

What to do?
