Incompatibility! is one of the business model followed by many Companies...
Power adapters, batteries, Memory cards, Lens,etc...
Any company sitting on a huge pile of success with huge market share does it best....

If it is the Battery Grip in this case....Canon just wants to sell battery grips to those who thinks of upgrading.... They know once customers are used to battery grip then they will buy it again...

Companies blame it on technology improvement...
