Chaukori is a tiny village, a hamlet rather, in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Set among the lofty peaks, of the western Himalayan Range in the Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand, it is a real beautiful place with some of the most magnificient views around.

I wanted to share a few photographs of the place that I managed to click. I was there a couple of weeks back to click some photographs. I hope you guys enjoy looking at the photographs as much as I loved being there. :)

Thanks,
-Aryan

So finally the Pithoragarh event is uploaded. There are some fab photographs there. Would you want a critique, or do you want us to "just" watch since you posted in the "Click and Show" section?

Approved

Beautiful. Me likes. Now if only you'd invested in a 10-22 vs the 85f1.8 :p

Some really nice frames in there!

Thanks for the approval Ken da. :) Well, as for your query, this time, I just want you all to have a look at the photographs peacefully! :D

Thanks Tau. I am glad you liked the photographs. I really wanted to get a Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens before I went to Chaukori, but did not, because of two primary reasons:
1. Lack of finances, but ofcourse! :p
2. I am finding out that the 18-55mm IS kit lens which I use with my 400D is capable enough to satisfy my demands. :) Unless and until I find the 10-22mm absolutely important to have in my kit, I will not really buy it. Instead, I am saving religiously for a 70-200mm L lens. :)

As for the 85mm f1.8, I don't own one! I have only three lenses:
1. 18-55mm IS;
2. 50mm f1.8II
3. 100mm f2.8 Macro.

Hey Vaishak, nice to see you posting here as well. Thanks for the appreciation. :)

I'll differ with you on the 10-22. Having seen Nitin Gera use his lens - there's just no bloody way one can manage the same perspective!!

And just curious - for someone pro like you - what advantage does the 70-200L bring, really? Compared to the 100 f2.8 for portraits?

Yes, even I have seen his photographs and I totally agree that the 10-22mm does provide some amazing perspectives, but then again, the 18-55mm ain't that bad either. I have been using it since the past 2 years. Agreed, at times, I do miss not having a 10-22mm in my kit, but as long as I can take a couple of steps back, I can fit my landscapes in my frame. ;)

The 100mm is a great lens, both for portraits, and ofcourse for macro work, undoubtedly. However, I wouldn't really call it a serious portrait lens, as 100mm on a 1.6x crop factor becomes a little too much. The 70-200mm gives me flexibility. Whether I want a 'general walk in the park' sort of lens, or a lens which can even shoot landscapes, the 70-200mm range is really what I would want to have in my 'kit', apart from a wide-angle (or Ultra Wide-Angle :D) ofcourse.

Also, when it comes to taking some nice, candid shots, this range (70-200mm) is very good and usable. Even for portraits, the 70-200mm can be used, since classic portrait lenses range from, say 85mm to 135mm "effective" focal lengths. :) With the 100mm, I sometimes feel that I need a little more zooming power, if you know what I mean. :)

beautiful pictures (except few pics are over saturated ,compo is excellent :) IMo you shd get better monitor first, instead of any lens now :P ..Please :D

I have been to that place :) ,but it was june .so no mountain view .. I want to go there again ,but its seems I'm planning to go Ladhak again this year :)

Regarding the need of wide angle :I have 10-24mm for my Nikon . Most of the time you won't go below 16mm for landscapes (reason 16mm on nikon is app 24mm or 15mm on Canon ).If you go below it ,things get too small and vauge ,but yes you will love 10-12mm mm for shooting sunstars :).

in b//w where is the picture of star trails ??? long exposure ??that place is amazing for that :)

I have lots of picture from shimla ,kurfi and narkanda trip .I hope I post them soon :D

@Robin: Thanks Robin for the comments and critique. And it's nice to know that you have been to Chaukori. :)

P.S: Come June, I plan to visit Chandratal! ;) And yes, do process your Shimla, Narkanda photographs and post them. I just know instinctively that they must be pretty amazing, to say the least.

Thanks Suvo.

Amazing pics Aryan :)

Thanks Techno. No, I didn't use any polarizer, it's just that the sky in the hills are SO bloody clear, vibrant and beautiful. :)

:D Believe me Tau, I am also a huge fan of an UWA; I'll surely get it as soon as I have the requisite amount. :D

Some really beautiful shots there Aryan!

Specially liking the punchy blue skies and the reed shots!

P.S. I personally feel that cramming so many really good shots into a single post dilutes their impact on the viewer

Thanks Vicky. Yes, posting many good shots together does dilute their impact somewhat on the viewer, but what the heck! I just thought of sharing the whole set with tPin members. :)

Could be true. But I really enjoyed watching through the series as much as the other "Moonlit Square" series. These two threads have moved Aryan up several notches I feel!
