Hi Guys,

Sunday morning, left home around 8am for this place called 'Deepor Beel'.

Deepor Beel is a permanent, freshwater lake, in a former channel of the Brahmaputra river, to the south of the main river south-west of Guwahati city. It is a large natural wetland having great biological and environmental importance. The beel is endowed with rich floral and fauna diversity. In addition to huge congregation of residential water birds, the Deepor ecosystem harbors large number of migratory waterfowl each year. Its about 20km outside town and it was still a little foggy when i reached there.

Had to leave the car behind and trek for about 1.5km to get there..

This is what i bought back:)

Beautiful Shots! Do you sharpen your photos as part of PP? If yes, what method do you use, Unsharp Mask?

Some are truly stupendous ... but #2, #3 - look a bit oversharpened/loss of detail! Or is it just my eyes?

Yes, I sharpen most of my pics after conversion from RAW to JPEG. I use USM in Photoshop:)

Yes, you are correct, #2 and #6 were given a slightly higher dose of USM compared to my usual workflow. The loss of detail in #3 is because this one is a 100% crop:)

Thanks Surya. Planning to give this place another visit this Sunday. What time of the day do you recommend for the visit.

Thanks again for the IDs on these! No wonder you are the veteran here:)

#1 is my fav pic as mentioned before
#2 : Loved the shot.. The reflection on the bird on the lake is really nice.
#5 : loved the pic as well. All the 3 birds show the different colours of the bird. This is my personal fav now.. :)

No clue about the technical side of the pics though :)

Good to know on your 2nd attempt this Sunday...

Vicky, the ideal time between 7am to 10am and between 4pm to 6pm in the evening....these are the golden hours.

The lighting color is ideal, the incident angle is good to get a catchlight in the eye and color are recorded well and most import is U get lots of shadow details and wing details...

All said and done...there is no hardfast rule...b'cos action keeps happening thro out the day...

The point to be noted is...Birds are active when the Sun temp. are low...They tend to hybernate in the afternoon conserving their energy.

Went again this Sunday. Was there from 7:30am till about 10am. But, there weren't that many birds around this time, and whatever were there were too far away into the swamps:( No sign of the Rudy Shelducks or the Adujant storks either!

This is what i bought back. All the shots are taken with the 50D + 400L + Kenko 2x TC with taped contacts. Mostly manual focus on a monopod:mad:
