Yes, it was announced exactly 5 min ago. Was waiting eagerly for this, being the Canon fanboy that I am :p Manas should be really happy about this.
It does have the most advanced AF system amongst any camera on paper. Lets see how that translates in real life photography though.
Here are few of the specs :

Oh and I think you're gonna be disappointed with the pricing, Manas. People are quoting it at $4999.

Still not a FF! The only thing that this does better than the Mk III is the HD Video.

I'm just lusting and being absolutely unreasonable, but its one of those things in life, like your first car, or your first house or whatever. :D I don't know, right now I'm more excited than a teenage girl on prom night. So many possibilities.. the 1D MKIII prices going South. Investment in glass.. my absolutely (well kinda) absence of need for such an expensive equipment given that I no longer shoot sports.
I'm waiting to see what lenses they announce too.

No Sir, the AF is MUCH better on paper. 39 cross type AF points is unheard of and this, coupled with the awesome AF system on the 7D makes this a dream for most sports photographers. And the ISO numbers look a lot more impressive than the addition of HD video IMO.

I totally understand Manas. Btw, why have you stopped shooting sports? :O
And I've heard that the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS is gonna be upgraded?

That remains to be seen! Its only announced right now.
About the pricing, I think body only $4999 is just unreasonable for me to spend. I now turn to 1D MKIII used. I think.
the 70-200 f/2.8IS II lens rumour has been doing the rounds since a long time now but its still quite a bit if Canon's lens upgrade intervals are taken into account, so yeah, I'm not holding my breath. Anyway I don't like that range. :) Too short on the long end and too narrow on the wide end for my style.
I stopped shooting sports cause I used to shoot for my University's newspaper and now I've graduated. I could still shoot local schools and kids etc. But who knows.
Anyway, exciting times ahead.

BTW the topic might be better off as "Announced" rather than launched.. yeah being a little OCD.

+1 you said it for me. 39 cross type AF points.
But what a price - I'd prolly buy it used in 4-5 years instead :p

yeah.
I still recall the 200+ shots I took with the 1D MIII. That machine just brings the internal child out and just makes your hands want to keep playing :)
The joy of money ... I agree!
