Synn, I went through the test, Satio sure gave pretty good results! But I also felt the X1 was pretty decent. Text was readable and sharp and not as blurred like w180.
But the w180 works in real life, because the point and shoot user gets supposedly least nosiy image and is most impressed with its performance.

Nice comparison. I'm love pixel peeping and really dig stuff like this. Anyway, I've always been put off by the agressive NR of the Sony Cybershot cameras and this test aptly demostrates it.
Really surprised and pleased with the X1i and the Satio's performance. The chroma and luminance noise of the Satio can definitely be corrected in post, and as you correctly mentioned, no amount of USM can correct the water colour painting like rendering of the W180.
