Was on the terrace to capture the beautiful sunset the other day, and noticed these tiny black specks far away in the sky... couldn't make out what they were, so ran downstairs to fetch the 400mm...
and this is what i saw in the distance:)

So, they're back early this year.. 28th Sept compared to 18th Oct last year!
Here's a portrait i captured yesterday morning while she was perched on the terrace of a nearby building..

like i said earlier Vicky,the first shot has the OM symbol in built.the birds have formed it.

800mm @ f/5.6 with subject Distance of 15 ft = Razor Thin DOF of 0.24 Inches!!!

Frankly speaking, I couldn't really notice any degraded image quality.... these are more than 50% crops of shots taken with a 3rd party 2x TC, and yet, they look pretty sharp to me:o
Just check out the detail in the feathers!
That softness in the beak is due to the extremely shallow DOF at these long focal length. Even at f/13, the eye is in sharp focus whereas the tip of the beak, less than one inch ahead, is so blurred!

Note the difference in the color and pattern of their feathers! Also the difference in their eye color!

Woke up one morning and looked out of my bedroom window and this is what I saw:D
Not one, but EIGHT Red Tail hawks lined up on the building nearby:lol:
