after much deliberation and putting our energy on our college, they finally decided to take us on an industrial visit.
to my surprise, they announced that i was the official photographer for the entire event.so that meant where others didnt had access,i had.:p.
industrial visit also opened a new chapter in my personal photo hobby.this was my first ever chance to photograph an industrial unit in detail.
i will progress as i post.for the time being teasers.:p

thanks for the approval ken.
i find the greens of fuji pretty pleasing.
and also pleasing is that my range though ends at 66.7mm it starts at a beautiful 6mm:D.
thanks powerslave.
sadly no lights at my place till 5pm.so will update the thread once the lights are back.since the other photos are in my main desktop.
also expect the photos not to be on the normal side in terms of editing.;).
like ken said it will have some of my trademark style.:)

thanks rio.
the college decided to take us to ABHISHEK Corporation LTD.which is one of the biggest textile mills in MAHARASHTRA.after days of monotonous life,we students were excited for this tour.as usual some delays and stoppages made the trip memorable.along with that singing dancing in bus etc..
reached the factory at around 11.the factory is a 100% EOU.so its big.and big means a lot BIG.the surrounding areas were well maintained.trees and landscaping, gardens for employees etc.our group was split in two and the main 2 units will be shown per group and then swap.the other went to see how yarn is made from pure cotton.we went to see how cloth is made from the yarn..ie the threads.
this was my first experience as a photographer for proper industrial shoot.walked some meters inside and we were into the cloth unit.
now my editing is two way..one is realistic..the other is where i was more inclined in bringing out textures and potray a different angle to a normal shot.so be prepared for some wierdo shots.
starting with this wierdo.

can you reach the end??be prepared for the surprises waiting for you on the way.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2658/3972454940_d51894eb94.jpg
this was their yarn cone area.they keep the freshly dyed yarn cones and the non colored yarns here.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2567/3972455764_82e272952c.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3446/3972458764_d38eb4a0be.jpg
thats the STALAM cone drying machine.sort of oven for the cones so that the color firmly sits on the yarn.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3424/3972456538_fcb0e02b81.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3474/3971689645_8308b0d898.jpg
thats one of the technicians who is supervising the testing machine.random cones from a certain batch are put on this and spun at high speeds to check that the dye color does not fall out.if it does then its back to square one.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3464/3972459378_5c782e3c6c.jpg
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2590/3972460388_2450d63940.jpg
thats the coloring machine.a certain sections of chemically treated yarn cones were put in holders, and these holders will go inside and color will be applied.the rotating holders will then again come out and the employee can take it out.
thats it for now.
more coming soon.
thanks for watching.

The shots in the second set are a little generic, maybe this is how the industrial photography is done. But i am pretty sure that you still have a lot in store.
Bring it on.

thanks KEN.
i wanted to give a horror style look.as you walk down,spooky noises,ghosts..etc:p
@bandhav: industrial photography is done with lots of lights and tilt shift lenses and pro bodies..
mine is an amateur attempt.:).glad you liked them.

thats their cone color dyeing machines.sort of pressurized cylinders..they were pretty huge.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3462/3987288300_6006983faa.jpg
the testing process that i was talking about.the black wheel shows us if any color is dropping out and dripping.

a cat will have a gala time pulling out each thread from all these cones.

thats the oerlikon schlafhorst autoconer.what it does is that it takes small cones which sit up rewind it and make larger cones.you can see the bigger cones in the first shot of the machine.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2612/3986538779_79a8d89a43.jpg
again one of my wacky editing.the threads doing team work to become one large cone of yarn.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2605/3987292702_6b27037a09.jpg
this guy was patiently and precisely looking for defects and mistakes in each damn thread.sort of testing ground.

anybody wants candy??lollipop??
i know these are not those oohh--ahhh shots.just trying to potray the different aspects that were present in the factory.
thanks to those who are following this thread.and viewing them.
and i know some will not like my photos..but its their perspective.so wokay.
more will be following.

actually the factory design had the important part of ample ambient light.so the design was such that light which was adequate was coming in the particular unit.
and during shoot i purposely shoot under exposed unless where underexposure will not work.that way i have headroom in bringing the correct exposure during editing.
and i didnt carry my tripod that day.and i was happy that i didnt.the walk was just tremendous.

the next part was to go to the loom section.all the looms were fully automatic.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2731/4030828137_a38b35d849.jpg
what electricity juice will you have??
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2652/4030829593_9441698c0c.jpg
from those yarns..proper cloth is made.now these looms are precision..coupled with small lasers.each loom sounds like a machinegun.so put these like some 50ish in one room and you get that much machine gun sounds.its deafening..but you can adapt to the sound.long exposure is not advisable as the sound may hamper the hearing.you can see that all engineers are wearing ear plugs.wearing ear plugs is compulsory in this room.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2438/4031583810_7da073a44e.jpg
but in all that deafening noise you still can have a te te with your buddy besides you.
from here we went to cloth inspection area.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2451/4030831395_45ae74b4d5.jpg
here the engineers check for any defects in the cloth.the cloth is passed under bright light.if any defects are there, the cloth goes back for revamp.and its real tough to check defects for we people.it requires experience.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2437/4031585188_0c4006aeff.jpg
a portrait of the person..dont know how this came..good.bad..who knows.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2613/4030832957_6bb063141c.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3483/4031587302_894107286b.jpg
we went to batch processing area where separate machines are there that put emblems or marks on the cloth..thats what i can remember.after that the cloth is put into an oven and heated at high temperatures for proper fusion..once that is complete it goes to the washing and drying section.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2576/4031588178_aeb32ce6b6.jpg
remember dexter's lab??dee dee was always fascinated by many buttons that were there..even i was curious as to what these buttons did..for a moment i felt like dee dee.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2601/4031588624_8ee36de7a8.jpg
temperature gauge of the oven.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2487/4031589566_3a35172c23.jpg
this is the CPB drying machine..sort of washing machine but on a huge scale.the cloth goes through rollers, constantly washing and drying and rewashing for complete cleanliness.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2633/4031576994_8ce5b1996b.jpg
this is the packing machine.bigger rolls of cloth are taken, cut according to the fed values, wrapped in plastic sheets, hot air is blown to melt and close the plastic ends and its ready to be shown in showrooms.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3520/4031578982_312369a11a.jpg
as we came out of the unit,we were greeted by storm clouds.indication that rain was very very near.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2503/4031580382_4f8774b2d4.jpg
Unit 1 of the textile mill.what we saw till now was the unit 2 of the plant.now ill guide you through the Unit 1 of the textile mill.
stay tuned.
thanks for watching.

Some very good shots there Anvancy. Very good reporting indeed. I liked the whole flow that was presented in a systematic manner. Most photographs of the switchgear are pretty good.
And the portrait turned out very nice.
Thanks for sharing this. Will be waiting for Unit 1.
