Hi!
As a newbie, I had two dilemmas: what type of bag to buy, and how to arrange it. So, why not have a thread to discuss these common issues. Better still, why not everybody post photos of your camera bag with your gear in it?
Looking at photos helps a lot, I think. It gives me ideas.
Here's my gear (not updated... add Sigma 18-200 OS & Canon 28mm 2.8)
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l96/rx100/All1.jpg
And this is how it fits into my Lowepro Nova 3 AW..
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l96/rx100/All2.jpg
This is my grab-and-run bag. Picked it up form Foto File, Bkk, funny why the call it the Fat Boy. Good for one medium lens mounted on the 400D without Battery grip. Comes with the detachable Lens Case 150 which can snugly hold either my 70-300 IS or even my 430EX:) Small, Sturdy and Cheap!

Please share!
Thanks.

For that budget, you get an excellent deal on the Mini Trekker, the one most of us own. They were giving it at even a lower deal at the Photo fair.

Is the Mini Trekker water resistant?

Is the Mini Trekker water resistant?
It is water resistant. And underneath the bag there is a pullout fully waterproof cover. Very effective.

I am putting across my contribution, my bag, the Lowepro MiniTrekker AW which has an attached pullout waterproof covering that comes out from the bottom in case it rains. Here are a set of pictures...
With 4 lenses and a body. It can easily accommodate a 2nd body too at the bottom!

For a nikonian like me yes it is !..
This bag belongs to a guy named Kedar Karmarkar. He is one of the official photographer of US Air force and IAF.
I met this person in Aero India-2009 as he happens to be one of my friend's friend (my friend not into photography) ...
I liked his natural finish of photos with very little or no editing. Having Experience in shooting mostly Jets viz Sukhoi, F-18s etc. he also sometimes passes time in Landscapes and automobiles. I liked spending time with him and was highly impressed by his down-to-earth behavior. He is based in SFO and works for Cisco.
His website is http://kedar.smugmug.com
During the chat I peeped into his Tamrac , and I got a certain reason to hide my puny D40 behind..
The gear consisted of-
A Nikon D3
A Nikon D700
A Nikkor 200-400 f/4
A Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8
A Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5
.... And accessoried adding up to a D40 :D ..
Have a look-

Great bag, but too big for your current equipment:)

Correct on all counts. I did it only for the photos.
And, yes it is a bag too big for my current equipment. But since I got it as a gift, I could not really refuse it you see.

What a gift then it is! Wish I could get the 70-200 or perhaps a 10-22 as a gift! :D
Anyways, jokes aside, how much does the bag cost? The coming month (April) I will be getting a camera bag. Hence, I am just asking around.

Large enough to comfortably carry all of my current gear... very strong ... metal lumbar support... All Weather Rain Cover... Hip Strap for even weight distribution.. lots of small zip pockets for filters and accessories... fully adjustable interior... even had provision to attach a tripod... and also looks pretty low key in black :)
All this for only 2.5k! I thinks its great value!!
EDIT : First two pics are of the net... the attached pic is mine though:)

The bag is shown with a 70-200/2.8 in it, and when the collapsible hood of the 400/5.6 is closed, it is not that much longer than the 70-200, maybe two inches. Can easily fit on the same loc. as the 70-200 in the shown image, if the camera is re-adjusted to a different location.

Precisely my point. You cannot fit both of them in the same bag with all the other stuff in there.

BTW, Is this pic off the net?
Edit : I googled 'FotoFile BackPack AW BP-1' and found out that this photograph is indeed off the net. This should solve Ken's question of fitting the two Ls in the bag with the two Sigmas.
P.S : I should have known that this isn't your bag. That body looks more like a MarkII N than anything else and there was no Sigma lens cap to be seen! :|

Can someone suggest a bag for carrying the following 450D,18-55,55-250,50mm prime...?
The lens count might most probably not go up for atleast another year or maybe even two. :)
But I do need decent amounts of weather protection as I would be using it while I tour around on a bike. Any suggestions?

DR-461 - 3648/-
C-58 - 4436/-

Lowepro it is most prolly then! :D
They were offering a handsome 15% discount though :D Lets see if can get something smaller and at a lower cost. :o

I actually vote for the Kata. I've seen it before in person and the fit and finish is better than the Lowepro. Haven't seen the other 2.

Even I agree, Kata bags are better than lowepro, also cheaper.
I saw one for 3K, It can take 1/2 camera and atleast 3 lens + accessories.
In the process of selecting a bag, I picked up Samsonite (One cam + 2 lens) for 2K. It has the same finishing of Kata. It is perfect for Every days use, when you know what lens you will be using that day.
A Good deal of Kata bags

Hi Krishn & Aryan,
Thank you for your replies. How you guys do that. Please Share, is there any special consideration for the photographers like Seaman's. last year I was asked Sir, your bag is 1.5 kg overweight and all I was carrying was D50, 18 - 200, 18 - 55, macbook pro and my certificate file. It took me good 10 minutes to make the air personnel understand that it is only an camera and couple of lenses nothing else.

Its easy. Carry separate bags for camera and laptop. They never weigh the smaller bags (read laptop bag). I always carry two bags for cabin- a small and a big. Ironically the smaller bag will always weigh more than the bigger ones, but noone bother to check the weight of smaller bag.
No problem till date.

@alligator: My camera bag is not 'over-weight' for airline purposes, perhaps, because I do not have a laptop! I just carry the body, and 3 separate lenses. That is all that I carry in the bag. :)

I hope this tread hasn't died.
I recently purchased the canon 500d and currently using the 'free' bag i got from canon edge. i think it very cumbersome for taking out and putting back the camera.
I'm looking for a small camera bag as i don't intend to buy any new lens in the foreseeable future (still exploring the kit lens).
my budget would be 4k max. I would be great if any of the members can point me to a shop of some sort in Delhi NCR.
Thanks.

The difference in the 20 and 30 is the size and the number of lenses that they can accomodate. Have a look at the comparisons below:

There is a Kata outlet I think at Pallika. I think Aryan mentionned it somewhere here. They have MRP marked on them.
Haha, I knew you loved that bag from the day we discussed this, Ken. :D
Devaiah: The 30 can hold a laptop. That's the only difference.
Yes to the first part.
Not to the second part. The 30 is a larger version that can hold upto 5-6 lenses with the possibility of a large zoom. The 20 can hold 3-4 lenses with one medium zoom.
in india it is available here www.smartshopper.in
Ken, is the pricing good at the above website.
synn, thanks for the info.
will it take in a 70-200mm with body?
Prices on that website is the same as the MRP. I am not comfortable with websites since I cannot negotiate. When I was at Spencer's, I managed to negotiate the price on the MRP.
Ah, I stand corrected, then.

Ah, I stand corrected, then.
Go for it Synn. Unless you are carrying a 300mm f2.8, this will easily last you another 5-6 years. Even my previous Lowepro was pretty decent and gave me service for 5 years. But this is compact, I find the sling design to be pretty useful and it is really well thought out! Superb product, good design and not bulky at all and the different ways you can carry it is simply wonderful.

@Ken Da: Lovely backpack that. I am also looking out for a nice, sturdy camera bag that can withstand some grueling journeys and shoots. Also, the bag that you have bought, will it fit two camera bodies nicely (the 400D with the 18-55mm and the 7D with the 70-200 f2.8)? I would also need to carry my other two lenses (the 50mm f1.8 and the 100mm f2.8) along with a couple of battery chargers and some sundry equipment (like pen, notepad to jot down notes, etc.).
Additionally, the bag ideally should have space for two more general purpose zooms, if possible. :)
Thanks.

The Bumble Bee is a new product and it may or may not be available in our country. Besides, it looks cumbersome like my Lowepro which is why I opted out of my Lowepro after 5 years since I wanted something versatile, mobile, easy to use and very compact.
And yes, you can also carry a 2nd body with lens attached, but then you sacrifice the space for one lens, 3-4 instead of 4-5.
@Aryan: Lets meet. You can have a look!

Price is bar coded and printed on the bag on the Kata tags.
I did not buy it from a Kata shop. I got it from Spencer's generic store. I will find out if one can find it at Shopper's Stop or some similar place.
