Folks,
Need to buy a 8GB card pronto. Want your ideas on which ones to buy: Level 6 or Level 2?
Also, with 6mb per jpeg around 12+ mb per RAW. Is 8 GB fine, or is 16GB necessary?

just check for the speed.
faster speed will make interval time drop by certain amount.
sandisk toshiba lexar make good ones.

Sandisk Extreme III and lexar pro are among the best.
The class number refers to the write speed. Higher the class, faster the card.
It's better to have 2-3 medium capacity cards rather than one high capacity one as it reduces chances of losing photos via data corruption. Speaking from experience, recovering photos is a long, painful process.

I have a 4GB Sandisk EX III but I think IV and V are already out .Arent they ?
They could very well be. I'm not entirely sure. Last time I checked was a few months ago, when Extreme IV was only available for CF.

Just for the record, speed is not always the answer. Faster speed cards are useless on older cameras. For example, my 5D writes (or formats) on the Extreme IV with the same speed as it does on an Extreme II. Hence, it is useless for me to spend more money on a faster speed Card! Unless I am using it with a newer camera.
This is true. But tau has a 500D which should support the faster cards, no?

Yes.
But this is a Universal thread! :)
Fair enough.
His question was specific to his needs, hence my doubt. No offense meant.

There's another side to it:)
Even though an old camera may not be able to utilize the faster cards to their fullest, yet the newer UDMA cards will cut down the 'wait' while transferring images from Card to PC by a big margin!
My old 2GB Kingston takes around 8mins to empty its full contents to the PC, while the Sandisk Extreme IV does it in less than a minute! With the same card reader!

I use a 4 GB SanDisk Extreme III SDHC card with my 1000D and it is a worthy investment. As Vicky said, we should not ignore that the potential of fast cards can be utilized even at the PC connectivity side. My card is so fast that it qualifies for Vista's ReadyBoost with my pathetic little Tech-Com :o SDHC card reader :D
I'd say SanDisk Extreme III 8 GB is your best bet if you are ready to spend the money...
