Welcome to the 1000D club! We're a group of 2 on ThePhotographer now :p

Oh no buddy, you're not! I'm sure there are many others who have the 1000D here and I'm one of them. :)

Early this year I was asking questions on The Photographer about DSLRs and which one to go for... Wanted to buy a used one but after going through many sleepless nights, finally got myself a new 1000D in May. Also got the Canon 55-250mm IS last Saturday. And although I'm bankrupt now, I still have a big grin on my face when I have the camera in my hands :D

Thank God there is someone who can understand my "pain" :). I was also about to buy a CPL, a UV filter & an extra 8 GB card along with the 55-250 when I realized if I do that, ICICI Bank will own me when my credit card statement is generated. So, for now, I've decided to wait till the next salary for that stuff... :D

My Brother Bandhav - a very very hearty CONGRATULATIONS for getting your dream - a D-SLR. The 1000D is a wonderful camera, and I am pretty sure, by now, you must have clicked quite a number of images. ;)

Do start sharing the pictures you click with your D-SLR, sooner rather than later! :D And congratulations once again, Bandhav. :)

Just a suggestion: Why don't you upgrade to the 450D + IS kit lens atleast? Will keep you much happier. And if you can get a twin lens kit, nothing like it!

Upgrade? He just got the camera! And a 450D isn't really an upgrade IMO, the XXD or 7D would be my next camera since that's more of a substantial 'upgrade'.

Thanks to all.

@Hitanshu: Atleast for the time being (read a year or two) i am gonna stick with 1000D of mine no upgrade whatsoever.

@Aryan & Synn: You guys will surely see some action from my side in different threads.

@all: I was replying to Hunter - who has Booked it. Let's face it, the 450D with IS kit lens is definitely worth the extra moolah. No?

My suggestion would be to stick with your camera for 2 years or more if possible... The smart thing would be to upgrade or buy new lenses rather than upgrading the body until it actually starts showing age or you can't help but drool thinking about a new one. DSLR bodies are very robust and can easily tolerate what we throw at them (not literally ;)).

No dude i hooked up with 1000d so liked it very much but i might go for the 500d if i got some moolah ;)

When I bought my 1000D, the 450D was priced around 44k with the IS kit lens and the 1000D, 31k. A price difference of Rs. 13k was definitely not worth the 'upgrade' IMO. I can live without spot metering, the larger LCD and the 2 million extra mega pixels.

@Tau: I agree. I wanted to get the 450D but because of my budget constraints, I got the 400D plus the 18-55 IS lens. ;)

Both are very good lenses... about a year back I lusted for the 50-150 2.8... and even purchased one in Singapore... but, while testing in the store, there was serious back focus on my 400d around max zoom... tried another piece and this one also had the same problem... focused perfectly from 50~120mm but severe back focus at 150mm... so finally did not buy it:( Dunno if this was a camera issue or lens issue...

I would suggest you check for back / front focus when you get it:)

Any valid reason for the change?

I am kind of trying to get the transition i.e. from D60 to D200 and then to D60 and then to 400D ??? Any specific reason for this instability?

If I were you then probably I would have kept the D200 with Nikkor lens and have sold the D60 off.
if it was a transition to canon then I would have certainly upgraded to no less than a 50D.

Then i realized that i cant live with out a DSLR now :D

for filters, battery, bag and the sigma lenses which are like 6months old and in like new condition, you should expect at least 25% cheaper than the local new prices of the same items.

for the year old 400D, you should expect 40-50% cheaper than the local new pricing for the 1000D
