Hello there people,
First off thank you Sunny, you never cease to amaze. This is brilliant!
Name: Manav Arya
Occupation : Graduated *finally* now MBA :)
Location : Pune / Daman
As a kid I always used to be facinated with cameras, part of that can be attributed to the fact that my dad and chacha were really "into" cameras. My chacha used to have some old mechanical russian camera and I used to love trying to focus and understand things on it. I was finally gifted one point and shoot film camera (I think it was a Yashica) which had a little gear which I had to turn to advance the reel. Moreso a uncle used to work in FujiFilm and loved to drop off boxes of film for my disposal. *Thank you singhal uncle*. Then the day dawned on me one fine day a uncle coming back from Dubai got the Pentax MZ 50 and I was GOD! I absolutely loved it and still use it at times and will try and upload some photos taken by it.
I was more then happy in my little world then one fine day Sunny came over with his Sony Floppy drive camera and the 300D. Till that day I had never handled a DSLR and I absolutely detested point and shoot cameras. I was bitten hard. Sunny somehow managed to pry his 300D from my hands on his way to Delhi and I robbed a bank and bought myself a 350D. In the following months though sadly because of need of money had to let it go. That was like the 7-8 month void in my life. I was roaming around in Heera Panna one fine day say a nice lil D40 and just asked the shop owner how much? He said 17 I was surprised!?!? I called up all my photographer friends and asked them are DSLR's so cheap now-a-days and immidately picked it up. Used it very happily for 6 months and finally just sometime back got myself a Canon 40D after consulting with our very own PowerSlave (thanks dude you owed me ;) ) So here I am with so much power in my hands and so much passion in my heart. Not much that I can boast of but I know ill do some justice to it with all the help from everyone here and around me.
I dont know why but my primary subjects of photography always end up to be Bikes and faces. I honestly said this yesterday to a lens dealer and a couple of people sitting in the shop "I've bought the cam just to take pictures of bikes, I think they can be one of the most beautiful subjects in the world. Its like the marriage of my love and passion" just dont ask me which is which though. And lastly I love taking "bulb" photos in the night & I detest overtly photoshopped pictures.
I have taken pictures for Bike India (really horrid now when I look back at them) Some of the pictures have been featured on friends websites some print media. One even won a contest.
For me photography has three aspects, I use my cellphone to capture some really odd moments and things which might not be possible otherwise (as I doubt anyone of use *except sunny* carries along a camera everytime) I use my point and shoot to take pictures of people and around in my life as memoirs. My 40D only sees the light of the day when I am gung ho going out to take pictures to satisfy myself and to create something beautful with it.
Thanks for having me and have already asked many of my non XBHP photographer friends to join in and trust me they are delighted to hear about the website.
Hope you dont mind as I've included 3 pictures of each.
