Common Tailor-bird, seen from my window in Mumbai. These birds are tiny, about the size of a chicken egg.

Beautiful shot! Love backlighted images a lot!

Thanks guys. It was shot from my window in Mulund, Mumbai. Tailor-birds are very common around here. I can always see 3-4 out of my window every morning.

Manual exposure, since the camera would not have metered properly for this tiny bird.

Watch out, here comes the Spotted Munia Express!

All taken one fine morning in the Airoli marshes near Mumbai. This is a gem of a birding spot, which is slowly being destroyed by uncontrolled development.

Harsh top lighting on a predominant white bird. Difficult situation Vicky. U end up with blown out whites. You have manged to get the light on the eye and under parts of the beak...

Not your usual sharpness...but Very nice image under difficult conditions.

Hi Guys,

Good afternoon,

Wow. I absolutely LOVE this shot.

Here's a pigeon.

One of the first shots I took from my 70-200.

Nikon D70, AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G VRII @4.5, 1/200, ISO-200, Daylight WB in ACR RAW PP, cropped from left and top to remove dead areas of the shot.

Wow that seems like a really close shot. Quite sharp too.

Nice. But not sharp enough for Vicky!

I know :o

But it was shot in really tough conditions... drizzling... terrible lighting and backlit too!

Check the EXIF and your would be able to see how bad the lighting was.

7D + 400 L @ 1/250, f/5.6, ISO 800, Hand Held and its about a 70% crop!

1/250 is a possibly the borderline for a 640mm hand held shot

Wow that seems like a really close shot. Quite sharp too.
Yeah, the pigeon was roaming around on the ground, and being slow and silent, I could get reasonably close!

And if photos from the lens I was using aren't sharp, then probably none can ever be:cool:

Methyl: Good shot. Are you using any CPL ?

Yes, I was using a Hoya 77mm Pro1 CPL borrowed from a friend. I find that it's very useful in cutting the glare from shiny bird feathers when the light is harsh.

However, there was plenty of editing in post as well.

Once upon a time there was a group of a few friends (non-living things). They were notoriously smart kids, whenever met would create havoc for good.
These guys were pretty faithful to their masters. They could understand their master's needs, requirements, emotions and sentiments.

One fine day, these friends got to know that their masters are going through an inevitable and intense stage of boredom. The reason indirectly seemed to be internet. They planned to spice up the life of their masters and many others associated with their masters.

Since these friends were non living things, the only way to communicate to their masters was either through dreams or some innovative medium. Innovative medium was internet through a thread called as 'Your Bird shots... from the Wild! '. Apparently the thread was looking out for some spicing ups, which could potentially cure the boredom issue of their masters.

So the the friends planned their reunion, made their master think and meet.

The friends were all set to create a havoc, again.

Ladies and gentlemen, here presenting the reunited friends.

Nice shots! Although the crooked horizon and composition in the first shot is throwing me a bit off. The second one is really nice.

@Bibu, what an intro and releasing the air of suspense....

Super fun time in Birding in a super weather conditions in a superbly driven Fiat Linea...

2 hours on the placid water of river Cauvery reminded me of Lake Placid when a Large Croc. swam past our boat just within the touching distance Starring at the delicious human breakfast it can have...if any thing goes wrong...!!!!

Boating past right below a canopy of a tree filled with painted storks & its young one and ear shatter cacophony of the juv. yelling for food....well just missed the urea bi-product on our head...tho could not avoid the olfactory nerves going hay-wire...haha.

This was a time where the Boot of the car was more expensive than the car...and Boat full of snipers vying for space to shoot the avian in their habitat..

All in all a wonderful half day spent with the birds of same feather flocking together.:)

Thanks for the gang for making this happen.

Coming to the images Bibu...the first one, the tilt horizon adds to the perspective, tho deviating from the rules & conditions in which your were trying to make images...!! Nice image with spots of golden light bokeh.

The second image is of the white browed wagtail..doing the tumble wash effect...Nicely captured.

Buddy, like prakash said, the combo is doing its job. I have same pic of spoon bill and believe me the quality difference of that with your shot is marginal.

I think the combo is worth the investment. (Or 200-400 is not worth it)

Also, I was amazed with the focusing speed when I tried your camera. I felt it was faster than my combo.

There are a thousand skeletons, but cannot stand out on par with the muscular quality standards set these days..... May be 5 years back those pics would have got a WOW!, not anymore

Just take the example of Bangalore which has got the most number of qualified/best Wild life photographers..... Who can disagree with their quality of work..... Those are the benchmark which needs to be met.

@ Vicky, Appreciate those compliments for the Bangalore boys. We just happen to do do birding to shake out the monochrome act of daily life.

Nice habitat image of Zitting Cisticola. In fact they look same size when birding...Unless you have reach...these little wonder are beyond the sensors.
