I liked most of the shots save for the last two. The quality of the last two cars did not please me. Rest of them look quite pretty.

^ This is the right approach to photograph a scale model, IMO.

The distance between the camera and the subject adds a sense of realism that is lost in extreme close up shots. Really liked these two.

@Kenda: All the above scale models are of kinsmart make, this a cheap chinese brand and the quality is nothing to write home about.

@Synn: You are right, the distance do help in hiding the irregularaties and other flaws common in case of scale models.

@Bandhav: Like I have said before, the location has made all the difference. Good shots. :) You are going in the right direction.

Yes, I think I have to agree with both Synnn and Aryan; location and distance are important.

This has to be the most 'realistic' shot of the set. Great job!

Most of the shots are underexposed and aren't as good as your earlier shots. :(

I like 1, 2 and 3. Though in n°1 I do not like the way the chain shows. I suppose Xavier does not like the shots because of the top sun!

BANDHAV

^^I was late in the morning so the sunlight was pretty harsh, in quest of getting of the exposure right i screwed almost all the shots.:(

Xavier

Yep, Ken got it right. The sun at the top brings a lot of shadows which affects the details. Not only that, the sky looks weird in shots #2, 4 & 6. Deliberate underexposure does not work for these kind of shots IMO.

These are so well and discreetly shot that one can practically not make out that this is a scale model!

@Bandhav: That is a HUGE compliment! :) And, I agree.

I would have loved to seem some fill flash in those bike shots.

BANDHAV

@Kenda & Aryan: Thanks.

@PS: You mean a little more exposure?

powerslave
07-03-2009, 12:25 AM
That also, exposure bump up a bit , but not a lot to retain the drama in the sky. Fill flash to light up the bike, except maybe in the shot with the bike as a complete silhouette.

I think that other than n°2, they all are not bad! In the sense that you are beginning to get the hang of shooting scale models in a way that irons out the nicks that show that they are scale models.

@arvind: Thanks mate, i love collecting scale models and have a small collection of around 50 of these.

Not bad at all! I think now you need to learn sharpening skills. Ask Aryan to come over and show you some stuff on PS! That will help you hone your work better.

Now we are talking Bandhav! Good work. You got the light right. You underexposed it to give it the glamour look with some glamorous models there. And the effect is pretty evident.

That is some great work Bandhav. I have one suggestion though...

IMO, it would be better to stop down at a slightly smaller aperture to achieve sharp focus throughout the bike in photographs like

http://i42.tinypic.com/9acrom.jpg

These are the types of photographs where choosing a perfect DOF is necessary so as to keep the object in sharp focus while keeping the background blur. But this analogy obviously does not apply to photographs like

http://i32.tinypic.com/2exvdro.jpg

The deliberate underexposure in the previous set worked for those photographs, but for some reason isn't going very well with these pics.
