Err.. I mean I got a new camera. Its been quite sometime that I've been using my trusty Canon 350D, a little over three and half years now. I was looking to upgrade for some time. I was expecting a lot from 50D, but it left me hanging on some aspects. Mainly high ISO performance (and i was hoping they's cram in a swivel LCD in there ;) )

As they wait got longer my expectations got higher. Finally I decided to skip the xxD series and go for the full frame. This was mainly after the 5D Mark II came out. I was drooling since it came out. Great pro quality full frame with excellent performance.

Then there was the time when I was contemplating various options of buying this. A brand new one in India with warranty was costing about 1.4L with the grey market coming at about 1.3L. The prices abroad were also at similar levels.

Then one day I spotted an ad. It was for a 5D MII from a pro-photographer who had bought it just for one photo assignment and had to sell it. It was not even a month old and less than 1k shots fired in that one month (used for few days only actually). Since this was a well known person, I contacted him and booked the deal. It was for a price much less than the market price, with an additional battery (which is soo hard to find and expensive).

Today I made the payment and got it home. It feels good in hand. And the low light ISO performance... damn! Dont even ask.. its that good. I'm blown away. I feel like a kid at the moment (if thats not already evident by the words in this post).

I have already updated the firmware to the latest version that gives full manual controls (including aperture/iso/exposure) in video mode (the only DSLR to have it at the moment) and some other minor changes.

Well, no pics/videos to share at the moment. I'm still drooling.. lemme wipe the drool off the camera (its weather resistant btw :p )..

I'll upload some good ones after I take it out this weekend. Wish me luck :)

Congrats for the great buy. I loved the way you described it. Waiting for the photographs now.

After your detailed descriptions of the use and photographs, I will probably move it to the ownership/experiences section.

Congrats once again for the baby! :D

Congrats for the full-frame Sri! Do post a few pictures of the camera, and the lenses you have got, once you DO manage to wipe off the drool. :D

Thanks a lot! Finally managed to wipe the drool off it :)

I have 6 lenses with me now of which I can use 3 on the new camera. If I manage to sell the old body and some lenses. I'll probably add another lens to my arsenal.

Current lens that I can use with 5D MII are:
1. Tamron 28-75mm f2.8
2. Canon 50mm f1.8
3. Canon 70-200 f4 L IS

And I have a 1.4x TC if i need to use it with 70-200.

Wow! Congratulations!

From what I've read, the full frame sensor has an advantage of 1 1/3 in terms of DOF compared to APS-C.. means that the subject isolation that you achieve with f/2.8 aperture on the XXD... the same subject isolation you can get with only f/4.5 on full frame!:)

I would love to go full frame too, but since i've been geting more and more attracted towards birding, I think the 1.6 crop of the ASP-C will serve me better. Not to mention the more responsive AF Subsystem...

Will be travelling abroad the coming week, and if all goes well, I shoudl return with a new body and some lenses:)

@Vicky: Which means, at f2.8 or perhaps at f1.8 (in the case of my 50mm f1.8 lens), a FF sensored body would provide TREMENDOUSLY creamy bokeh, is it? :D Lovely!

Well, the 'creaminess' of the bokeh would depend on a lot of other factors too, but yes, it would provide much narrower DOF and hence better subject isolation given the same aperture, focal length and perspective:)

@sarao: Yeah its from him. But this price is not the same :) .. lets just say i got a better deal huh ;)

yeah aryan.. shallower DOF and creamier bokeh.. like an instant upgrade to all your lenses :)

I was still playing around with it today. Just installed all the s/w and configuring some settings now. I'll get some shots this weekend for sure.

Thanks for the wishes.

naah, not going for group shoots. I find the messy rather than a learning experience. Getting some camera work done on my old camera tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some shots from the new one too.

Five Deeeeeeee II - delicious .

Now with your 5D and Tamron 28-75 you can pretty much surpass all the wedding photographers in India - just pun intended.

I would like to know the difference between 5D & 5dII interms of lowlight performance in reality.
