I've been doing a fair bit of photography related reading lately and have really liked Bryan Peterson's works. Finished reading Understanding Exposure

http://redtowncats.com/images/books/51ukcq2To9L.jpg
which is termed by many amateurs and professionals as THE BEST book on photography and I'll vouch for it. The way he explains stuff is par excellence. I so wish I were a part of that golden era of film photography. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the perks the digital world gives me, but film has a different aura about it and Understanding Exposure isn't a book that is only meant for Film photography, it is about basic photography which can be applied to both Digital as well as Film. The pics in this book are something that people like me can only dream of.
I'm currently reading his other book, titled Learning to See Creatively

and am loving this one too. Before I bought my DSLR, I read this book called Digital SLR Cameras & Photography For Dummies 2nd Edition

http://www.ebooknetworking.com/books/047/014/big0470149272.jpg
and IMO this is a must read for all those who either plan on buying a DSLR or already own one. The Dummy series is how I learnt basic Photoshop as well as Photographic techniques.

Good one there. I have not read much when I started photography. I tried "catching" up later. Read up on John Hedgecoe. Very basic and very good and detailled and quite a thick volume.

Ross Hoddinott - Digital Macro Photography

I have been searching for this book for long now. NO bookstore in Delhi (be it OM Book shop or several others) has it! I don't have a clue why. I tried purchasing it through Amazon but the handling charges doubles the price. :(

If someone finds out this book (online even!), please do let me know. :)

Should have asked me before. My son is taking a SE Asia tour. He could have got it for you. Lets see if I can organise this for you.

This is not a book and there are several people out there who are staunch critics of the man, but www.kenrockwell.com has loads of useful stuff that can better one's photography technique. Some may say it's only for Nikonians. I tend to disagree.

The tips I learned from his site have actually helped me become a better photographer and I shall forever be thankful for that.

Ken Rockwell is always criticised by expert Nikonians Worldwide. His review and feedback about various lenses and camera had many a times proved to be wrong.

that's exactly what I'm talking about. Take the reviews and opinions, actually THINK about them, reach your conclusions and you'd have no issues.

Keep in mind that Rockwell's posts always talk about real world use, supplemented by real world photographs. These are things you and i can relate to. not charts posted in a controlled environment lab.

I use a few lenses reviewed by Rockwell and i found his views on them pretty much spot on. Also, his tips on using UWAs etc are very practical. I disagree with him on issues like tripods vs VR, RAW vs JPG, but I don't call him a moron for those. Why? Coz i can think for myself. :)

Anyway, don't wanna hijack this thread and make it a Rockwell war. The net has enough of those. Use the site if one finds it useful. End of story. There is no right or wrong in photography.

Sorry for hijacking my own thread, but every photographer must check this
Ken Rockwell Facts (http://www.bahneman.com/liem/blog/article.php?story=Ken_Rockwell_Facts)

The ones I love are :

Ken Rockwell's camera has similar settings to ours, except his are: P[erfect] Av[Awesome Priority Tv[Totally Awesome Priority] M[ajestic]
Ken Rockwell never flips his camera in portrait position, he flips the earth
Ken Rockwell ordered an L-lens from Nikon, and got one.
Only Ken Rockwell can take pictures of Ken Rockwell; everyone else would just get their film overexposed by the light of his genius
Ken Rockwell once designed a zoom lens. You know it as the Hubble SpaceTelescope.
When Ken unpacks his CF card, it already has masterpieces on it.
For every 10 shots that Ken Rockwell takes, 11 are keepers.

And here's my favourite from the lot :D :

Ken Rockwell's shots are so perfect, Adobe redesigned photoshop for him: all it consists of is a close button
