Hi guys. Over the weekend I finally moved my lazy bum to take some shots of my old car.
Here are some of them.
Accepted the fact the I have done a little over-editing.

Photoshoot Approved
Some nice treatment there. Many of us would be wondering how you went about getting an effect the way you did it. One of the photographs is not of a car btw.
On the side; is this a 1.6 ELX? Or a 1.2?

It was all trial and error actually to get the effect. But actually I've learnt adjusting the shadows a little in PP. I have to take some panning shots but unable to get a crew (with two enthu drivers and two cars) ..
This is 1.2 ELX ken, not lucky enough to own a 1.6 :p.

N°2, 4 and 6 are really nice afa Car shots go. I liked the effect. You say you got these effects by playing around with just shadows? What did you do to the shadows to get this?
(I own the 1.6 and simply love it!)

Thanks ken. I believe max car shots I have been browsing thru, has a little more concentration in Shadow part. It gives a real shiny and lustrous look by adjusting the micro contrast (I believe this is the term). U gotta play different combination of micro contrast with the tone amount and radius. Keep the Tone amount to minimal. Car shots with a little underexposure gives a retro feel.
O.T- And u have a 1.6 , Lucky chap u are ... thats hell of a machine. My cousin crossed 215 kmph in blr-chennai GQ with a 1.6.
I liked shot number 2 and 3.
Thanks dude.

Thanks vicky. Glad u liked them.
My D40 battery drained out after shot-2 and thats when the hue became more beautiful. Damn. M gonna give a try again to get it better.

Thanks for that piece of info. Will keep in mind next time I process some auto related photographs.

nice treatment.and i dont feel that you have "overdone" it.
next time try your shoot with the built in flash.in one article regarding car photography,be it harsh sunshine or sunrise sunset etc,it said to use "direct flash" for the distribution of light.try doing that while keeping your flash underpowered.
ill give u one more tip..take 3 exposures..ill do the HDR for you.:p

Oops I m seeing this reply today only. I am thinking that I have overdone it bcoz I have spent a lot of time getting that result, and for a lazy bum like mine it feels like that :o ..
Thanks for the favour, I'll get a nice shot preferably RAW and share it with u for HDR.
here is one more similar to #1(hope I am not boring u guys)

I am intrigued by that glazed effect that you have succeeded in giving. How are you going about doing that?

I am in the process of learning PP to be very honest. The results in this shot has come by using three tools-
1. Levels and Curves
2. Shadow and Highlights
3. Black and white layer
I am attaching the original pic of this shot-

Adjusting micro contrast in shadow and highlights tool gives a nice contrasty as well as the shiny effect what u can see. I'll try to maintain a log next time when doing the editing and try to keep it simple.
On a side note- I spent a lot of time and money in maintaining the natural shine of my car

There is a big difference between the original file and the Processed one. I like the effect, I don't know about the others.
Micro Contrast in Shadow Highlights. I will try to remember that one and implement it. Thanks.

OK. I tried my hands again and realised the time-of-the-day factor. Morning time beyond 7.15 AM in summer is not suitable for car shoots. I started clicking at 7 at gradually I saw myself struggling. I was not carrying my tripod so did not try HDR.
Also shooting car in a residential locality is again a very difficult. n number of times I had to excuse the passing vehicles and move the car to side. And there were hinking morons too, those idiots seemed to be blind, a blind who can't see a black DSLR in my hands even in daylight.
Anyways, I am not so happy with the result and I need to try again by pushing my butt even early say 5AM .

Very nice work indeed SP! Really enjoyed looking at this. Now this looks unconventional to me at least.

I liked the second one too, especially with that lovely tree sprouting from on top of the car. Just those "other things" to the right and left seem to be cluttering up the photograph.

Thanks Bandhav and Ken. The second shot is my personal fav too. I tried to clone stamp/heal/patch the clutters , but was unable to get proper result. I wanted to maintain a lil originality of the shot so kept the editing minimal.
The tree u can see in the background is actually quite sharper since the shot is wide angled at 18mm and with a small aperture .. Here is the original

I am glad u guys liked the shots. I need to practice more in a better time of the day and in a better location. Hunt is on ..... :D

Strange, but i liked this original version even more than the edited one, the sharpness of tree do try to distract the viewer from the main subject but thats momentary. This unedited version has a real life like feel about it.IMO.
