Looks nice. Does it have a big sensor like the old R1? That'd be really great.

This is newer than the G10 by nearly a year! I would like to have a look at this. I have been using a Sony for the past 4 years and have been pretty impressed by it's performance; at least AFA colour is concerned.

it do 've a newly developed Exmor CMOS sensor, but not a bigger one as Psycho mentioned in next post

You may say that, but one has to admit it got features which are not exactly ground breaking but yet indeed got potential to create a buzz in the segment :)

yes mate, it do 've a bigger and newly developed Exmor CMOS sensor dude, you're way off. this is a tiny sensored cam (1/2.4"), and the sensor is in fact smaller than its predecessor, the Sony DSC-H50(1/2.3"). The R1 had a man sized APS-C sensor. no way it can compete with the R1 in terms of image quality.

The R1 was pretty friggin awesome. Too bad Sony doesn't have a true successor for it.

I guess that now the micro 4/3rds are sort of the successors to it. compact cameras with decent sized sensors, and also the added functionality of the interchangeable lens system.

as for the HX-1, it might look a good investment at the onset - with the impressive numbers of the 20x optical zoom and the frame rate, but I guess that for someone serious about photography, the usual limiting characteristics of the compacts (noise, unlimited DOF, shutter lag, viewfinder lag (non optical)) might soon make one regret the decision. Sort of what happened with me when I got the FZ50.
