You probably don't want to know.
As in, similar in quality levels to that one. When you take a picture like that, you should feel a determination to match that quality level with every shot.

I wonder where all the sharp shadows of the flash went.
Flash or available light, if the frame is filled with enough diffused light, there won't be any harsh shadows, as far as I know.

It is indeed a flash photography, however the background has been changed and that's the reason there is no shadow.

If you don't mind, i think your work would gain in everything with more rigorous framing
Your figure are interesting but most of the time i feel that the way the background is managed damage the reading of the subject.
Also regarding the ratio it's a bit surprising 1/1 is ok 24x36 is ok 6/7 is ok, 6/4.5 is ok
but i can't figure out what's the sepia one. it bugs me a little bit :)

Thank you for your valuable inputs, sir! :) Can you please elaborate on the rigorous framing part, so that I can try it out? Will try to ensure that the next time I shoot in street, I find a better background or angle. My usual image size is 6x4/4x6 or 4x4/6x6, I don't go for any other size, just in case I plan to print a few frames. :)

I believe what you have tried to do is compose the lady with those leaves which is a brave effort. But what I feel would have created a better effect is the presence of her entire self showing the action that she is involved in. A self portrait now.
ISO 1600 for the grain and manually focused. It may not be sharp but does it needs to be? ;)

what's going on with the background Rajr ?
an elder worker
Pune, Maharashtra. 2008
Excellent shot as usual Zwaltek
A test shot of my father lit up by single incandescent light. Actually i did not want the rear wall to appear in the photograph but after i clicked this shot, my father got bored!
I like the shot.
No background, then keep light real close @ ~1-2ft from subject... When working with lights, remember the "Inverse Square Law"... :)
More info, can be given by experts Ken, Hensil, Synn, Anvay, Aryan & the rest or from internet!
Not much experience with lights. Still have to work on it.

The first one is not that sharp for me.
Full marks for the sharpness in the 2nd one though!
It looks good, but I am not too sure of the Exposure. The lower-left 1/4th part seems too bright. You can also see some unnatural glow between the person's shirt and the dark background in the upper-right 1/4th part, which I suspect you burned down during post-processing.
Rajr, if these are your attempts at post production, then stop doing what you're doing because you're heading down the wrong path.
As for the actual shots, the first one has camera shake and neither shot have powerful compositions, which no PP can help save. I'd recommend you to concentrate more on getting composition right before you attempt PP. Remember, photography, especially portraiture is about subtracting the unnecessary and that subtraction happens before you click, not after.

How did you manage to close-in so much without making the guy aware of the fact that he is being photographed?

Several things:
1. Practice.
2. Making him at ease. Was shooting him for a while. After a point of time he got into his daily routine.
3. I was in the company and was being guided by a 3 times Pullitzer nominee! :)

Perfect skin toning but that Blue is very overpowering, almost hurting the eye.
http://www.thephotographer.in/galleries/data/594/AshishGreenCurtains.jpg
Was trying out some low-key shots.
It was shot during twilight (The actual thing, not the stupid movie), so the blue you see is the real deal. This is where manual white balancing helps. When I set to daylight WB, it ensured that the skintones are natural while the blue remained exactly how it was.
Critique for your picture, it's not really low key as you don't have a key light, only a backlight. For an image to be low key, you need a backlight stronger than the keylight. As it is now, you have an underexposed image.

There is some halo behind the hair of the lady on the light. Is it because of the flash reflecting off some surface behind her?

But i would prefer a full monochrome image here.
Good shot and the focus is right on Kaushik, but I personally would have gone a bit wider. To go this close without distorting the face, you need a longer lens.
I am not a huge fan of selective coloring though. Agree with Ashish, that should would look even better as full monochrome.
