Name: Dipanjan aka DP.
Profession: Post Graduation Student. Major In Transportation Design. (MIT Institute of Design, Pune. India).
Equipment: Canon EOS 20D, 18-55mm f3.5-5.6, 75-300mm f3.5, Simpex Flash Radio Trigger.
Favourite Subjects (of Photography): Street, Candid, Faces, Fashion.
Intended Objectives: I intend to learn some good tricks and tips of Photoshop. A good Post Production adds huge life to the photograph by making it more presentable. Although your RAW file has to be smart enough. I'm still in search for a good watermark for my photographs.
Favourite Photographers: Raghu Rai, Prabuddha Dasgupta, Patric Demarchelier, Rahul Dutta, Amit Das, Tarunn, Sundeep Gajjar and so on……
A Little Background: I’d Started clicking with a fix lens YASHICA Electro 35 at the age of five. That era was like ‘Think hundred times before every single click’ because a single black and white roll cost me equal to my half a month pocket money. Then later on day by day gradually I moved from black n white to colour, to fix lens to slr and finally entered in Digital Photography with a digital slr.
I realize everything in photography comes down to one word: VISION. It's never been much about the gear. It's always been about seeing something, knowing how you want it to look, and making it so. There are no rules other than to make your image as you want it. Somehow I realize that the rules of basic photography aren’t set in stone. Sometimes ignoring the guidelines produces a unique, striking photograph. Yet, be sure to understand the basics before you play with the rules of basic photography.
Fortunately I have been in touch with some really very good photographers of India, who have been in the field of fashion or glamour photography and this has definitely influenced my work. That is why most of my work is in the studio light trying to capture people, their postures, faces and expressions? If I shoot outdoor also I try to carry minimum one light. It gives me confident.
After being sailed from Kolkata to Pune, now I’m taking interest in street photography. Believe me it’s a tough tough tough job. Framing, focusing and clicking the shutter at the right moment; apart from talent and knowledge it requires a good amount of luck also. Because here you won’t get a second chance. And for me, if I get a single good frame among my day long clicks, I consider my day lucky.
I start afresh with each job. No so called pre-plans. I start with a very basic setup and idea and let things happen. I shoot, look at the picture ‘nah’ shoot again, look ‘I like this picture’ that’s where it ends. Digital photography allows you that freedom.
