Ouf! Super shot.
Thank you. Few more macro's clicked last week. :)

3. And finally, an attempt that went wrong! Hopefully, failure is the stepping stone to success! Need to learn how to do this! Suggestion anyone?

I liked it! black background, reflection, accurate focus... sort of macro product shot of a bio robotic thing :)

for the third one, I think either you need to focus on the outer surface of the water drop, or get a DOF same width of the drop. in your case the focus is before the water drop.

Thanks rajr.

Canon Powershot S5 + DCR 250.

Like i have replied in your message, the DOF with the DSLR is super thin on this thing. Its a very difficult job to get the focus right. Much better on the Powershot though.

Anvancy has mentioned this in his review as well! He can give more info. :)

Created quite an uproar with his car reviews in another forum! Brochure stuff, really! Loved it.

Nice shot! Details is there, but just a learner's suggestion- angle could have been better. :) Reversing does a good job on a DSLR. As I have mentioned earlier, Raynox also has super thin DOF with a DSLR. :)

I guess it is perfectly exposed.

But I guess you need to work on the sharpening and lighting bit. Ask Anvancy, maybe he can give you a few pointers. From what I can remember he uses a DIY diffuser box for his flash to light his Macro subjects. He even has a thread on the DIY diffuser box.

One reasons a Fly, whether on the wing or at rest, is so hard to hit is the nature of its eyes. Humans have two lenses - one in each eye, the Housefly has eight thousand lenses - four thousand in each eye. Bulging outward from the sides of its head, the thousands of six-sided lenses fit together like honeycomb cells, and provide wide-angle vision unknown to humans

How did you manage to damage the sensor? I guess you know that its the AA filter on top of the sensor, and that you can change it, or even you can use your camera without that filter. In fact the pictures will be much sharper without AA filter but you'll get more of moire effect and in some lighting condition you will see IR leaked in.

Yes, I simply held the reversed lens directly against the sensor. It was at 18mm and manually focused to infinity.

You can also use an fast lens like 50 f/1.8 holding in reverse in front of other telephoto lens mounted on the camera. This is called lens coupling and it gives quite a magnification. The reversed front lens works as a good diopter. Try it.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I will look into both things you said, the AA filter and the reversed 50mm lens.I actually just got a 50mm f/1.8, so I'll try some of those shots today.

Yes, just the florescent lights in my room + f/22 for depth of field. I'm going to try again in bright sunlight this weekend. I was experimenting to learn the reverse-lens technique, which I can now control to a decent degree.

Cool.

For indoors, try it with a torch and see.

You would need a third party, other than the photographer and the spider to hold on to the torch!
