This is on the Shimoga-Agumbe state highway, Karnataka. I have already done a bit of editing on the original shot. I'm not quite sure what is a cinemascope crop :p (I'm still very new to all this :) ) Can you please explain?

It is not easy to shoot stuff like this.
The exposure of your subject has to be spot on. The texture of the pipe has to be razor sharp in focus and so on. Then it starts looking good.

Both shots are good, conveying very different moods. The first one with the lady setting her camera is a lovely composition... the lines of the steps in counterpoint with the lady's body in diagonal... working beautifully for me.

You have a decent idea of framing. I think it is time you started working on it... "f" being the aperture and "s" being the shutter speed. I can continue if you wish.
Technocrat
12-22-2010, 12:15 AM
Yes, I know what the 'f' & 's' mean but I dont understand how do people know that a image would have come better at 'x' or more stops before or after the F value chosen :(
I normally switch to manual mode in poor lighting conditions, dial in with some guess work (using simple logic)till I get it right.

Here is why:
http://www.pixiq.com/article/sharp-photos
You must use aperture priority mode (shutter priority for sports/panning or suchlike where a bare minimum shutter speed is required for avoiding shake) in most scenarios.

That was the original plan Tau. Thought to get an entry level DSLR or a used D90 category cam. Sadly could not find a decent second. Had my hands on a friend's Canon 1000D but was not very impressed with it(may be after trying D90 of his Dad :))Found Fuji with some preferred features, though had a long long long thought and self-convincing to sacrifice a larger sensor. :o

Image of Shakti. (Sakthi in Tamil). Locals call her as Mariamman (Rain god). This shot was taken in a newly renovated temple near to my home. Thanks to the priest for allowing me to take this. Except some small temples, taking shots of mulagraham (main statue) is still prohibited in many temples in India. In the name of renovation, today many of the temples are losing their age old architecture. You can see some granites in the background. This temple also contains some western style hanging lights, which ruins the traditional looks entirely.

No Sir, I don't want to lie about this. I took it with a borrowed P&S because the colours didn't come out too well on my phone.
I'm really very sorry for not mentioning that in the beginning.
Here's the same shot with my phone camera:

Thanks Ken,
This was shot last year when me and my friend visited Nepal. Unfortunately, the day we landed in Kathmandu the whole Nepal went on strike. The whole Nepal remained closed for 9 days till the day we left. After reaching Kathmandu we had tough time to reach our hotel that was outside the city.
We stayed in Kathmandu for 4 days then flew to Pokra. There we hired a by-cycle for for 5 days to move around. The by-cycle forced me to leave my heavy photography equipment in the hotel and just carry GF1 with kit lens 14-55mm. I also carried the Nikon 50mm that I can attach to GF1 with an adapter.
Now I like GF1 so much because if it's small size and weight that I hardly use my DSLR unless it's very important.

Yes, nice shot for academic interest.
Why do gods or demi gods look so ferocious?
May be to create a fear among the locals about these demi-gods to not to do any sinful act. Traditionally they are designing the statues like these.

I am going totally OT but I naturally presume that a God is supposed to instill love and affection other than fear with such elongated canines like Count Dracula!

I was enjoying the beach at Ganpatipule, Ratnagiri two years back when this relatively big crab caught my attention. Immediately I set my Sony DSC-W30 PnS into Macro mode and started chasing him. The funny thing about the crab was that every time I used to get close to him, he would raise his claws, in defense that is.
Crabs walk sideways and not straight like us, so photographing him was a big fun!:)
