Will have a closer look once again. Bring on the whole hog. Was eagerly waiting for this tour.
I am sucker for railway tracks and trains. I liked all of them... especially the touch of B/W in the first one, just loved it, the motion tending to infinity in 2 and the glorious gleam of the tracks in 4. I am enjoying them! Thanks.

Trains are captivating, truly. Thanks for the bonus. I like the composition of your 2nd one in the bonus. But I did not like what you did to it. Actually I could not quite fathom the overall blue temperature.
There is one definite negative in the Indian Railways (like so many other things Indian) is the amount of white paper and plastics and filth that you get to see in the photos. Which is why I prefer moving shots where these blur out a bit.

Anvancy since you posted this for critique, be prepared.
I did not like any other shots except this, which is decent:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3359/3201850840_f5b0a40744.jpg
Most of the images are underexposed (even if they deliberately they are working for me), or over processed. Not much variety in the so many shots posted. Try not oversaturating the color. Sorry, not much to say on these ones. :)

well..i didnt find a thread to post my trip photos..so ended in critique section.
sunny:thanks for critique.well like i said..all are prologue shots..real trip photos are yet to come.the main subject here were the trains tracks etc..nothing scenery in particular..i was fond of trains so shot..
though i believe in individual tastes.i think that separates ppl.:).
i also believe that if i just keep on processing as per other's needs then i would lose my identity.
everytime one says "hey this is gone bad..hey the red is too much..hey the subject is crap.."..this thing i have seen in our recently held exhibition.there is another group who came and just thrashed..appreciation was zero.general rules well yes..but always burden..well no.
this doesnt mean i am not open to critique.the users have every right to critique on the whole trip photos..no problemo.we are not going into deep..and even if we do go..ill be not be interested.i am posting to "share" the beautiful journey.
REQUEST TO MODS: I WOULD LIKE TO MOVE THIS THREAD TO THE GENERAL DISCUSSION PLATFORM.I DONT WANT TO PUT ALL OF MY PHOTOS UNDER THE GUILLOTINE.ILL POST SPECIFIC THAT REQUIRE CRITIQUE HERE.

finally days after wait and processing,95% of the photos are now ready for upload.i treated each photo as an unique one.so editing in batches was not my taste.for me if i do in batch for some the effect may be more for some less etc.
the prologue shots have already been posted.now ill start off with the trip ones.
and having enjoyed the trip,a true value of the photo is known.u can see that and remember that time when u had fun.
also i ll be uploading day wise photos for easy work.posting too many is not good.so this post will contain leg 1 of mysore and some before that.
anyway my last photo was that of the train with the gradient one.
that was the last of the train series.after we reached bangalore one of my cousin stays there.so she came to meet us.we halted at comesum since our shatabdi was at 11am..we reached at around 8:30am.
so here goes..ill give description as i post.
enjoy them.
when we reached bangalore we ordered usual coffee and idlis and dosas.while my sis and my cousin were talking,my two other cousins were in their own thing..then i noticed my sis reading a book with a cup of coffee on the table.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3527/3236003351_2d579287fe.jpg
the other,(sitting) was bored.i had the camera.so i asked her to pose with the sugar sachet that came with the coffee.we all required atleast 3 sachetes of sugar for that coffee.instantly she gave an ad pose.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3420/3236004057_6bfa7dc910.jpg
when we reached at comesum,we went up.this is all at bangalore.the upper deck of the cafe was open but the janitor's job was yet to be performed.so obviously our desi style, there were a lot of houseflies around.
removed my raynox, kit, attached the 250 to it and started hunting.one suddenly came and sat on my cousin's shoulder.before she could shoo the fly away i told her to sit still.kudos to my sis who sat still for 2mins and kudos for the fly also.
handheld using the 250.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3521/3236848324_d27e16d6db.jpg
of all the active ones, there were some who were sitting idle.so grabbed that opportunity and shot these two.
both handheld.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3333/3236848888_79701e767c.jpg
when i clicked the second one,i projected that "fly ko bhi thand lag rahi hai.is liye haath shake kar rahi hai.:p
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3133/3236849640_8d7fd6bd80.jpg
this was the first and the last time i used raynox in my complete trip.:(
then it was time for our shatabdi.we had to move from platform1 to platform 7 since its arrival was there.
the shatabdi arrived on time, departed on time and arrived at mysore on time dot at 1pm.
the shatabdi is a nice train.full airconditioned(with perfume)food and water served.since mysore is famous among foreigners there was a huge crowd of them.and particularly children enjoyed the trip, standing at the door.when asked they said that in their country they cant do stuff like this.moment of pride u see.
a pic of the shatabdi.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3490/3236008361_0ba9cd4664.jpg
mysore is a beautiful city.city of palaces and royalty.they have maintained their tourist status.within 10min from the station we reached our hotel.
after check in we were welcomed by a nice notice in the bathroom enlightening us that hot water is available only from 6am to 10am and 6pm to 10pm.we reached at 1.so no hot water.got fresh and went for lunch.
our hotel was one of the oldie chains in south india.dasprakash group.we were staying in their paradise hotel.we ordered the famous south indian thali.
the before shot.
food as ofcourse was tasty.

the aftermath.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3325/3236010143_4035bbd3a4.jpg
my cousin was eating "dahi shakkar"..love it tremendously.so she was teasing me that,i have it and u dont..
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3369/3236010409_f17bf76684.jpg
went in rooms for a quick rest before setting off to our first destination.
BRINDAVAN GARDENS.
when we reached brindavan garden we were greeted with huge population.literal "BHID".bad sign in terms of photography.any shot u try to take, people come in between.and that day was a holiday series.so school picnics and other parties landed on that very same day.the authorities charge 50rs(if my memory is correct)for a still camera.u have to pay along with ticket.if u give a dicchu and dont pay, they outsmart us.they have people with digital ticket machines inside the park at ideal locations, checking for camera tickets.if u dont have, pay on spot.
the garden is a beautiful place.situated at KRS dams,it has been featured in numerous films, famous that i remember is padosan.
tried my hand at illusionary photography.

for the train shots kept it at P mode unless i wanted to take slow shutter speed shots.
for the fly macros, kept the aperture at F8.
PP involved is levels, contrast, unsharp mask.tinch of saturation.i personally love a notch above natural saturation.

Finally had a good long look at them. Enjoyed them quite a bit. Yes, there is a hint of over-saturation as some people do point out. Again it is probably your way of doing things. Some of them play well, others less so.
Pretty good stuff nonetheless. Will be waiting eagerly for the next set.

there is a difference between seeing a photo above notch saturation on a display and seeing a photo displayed under lights.had a quick print and the colors were actually alive.

This is an aspect that maybe we need to look at.
this is what i have personally observed.
many times there seems conflicts that images either appear more bright, they have either more saturation or less saturation.exposure is a different thing.
different monitor manufacturers have their different "default" settings.eg,see your image on a CRT,an LCD and then an LCD on a lappy.the brightness and color levels differ, since the default settings per display differ.
if i go on editing as per "other's needs of brightness and saturations,it may happen that you will get to see correct but then other may point out that he is not seeing good.
i am ofcourse not seeing they are natural saturation.for some it may still be a not liking saturation.i have boosted them to a slight level.but then on prints they look nice.

our first stop was Chamundi hills.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3406/3239958343_9f1bc7c8f6.jpg
Legend has it that that the demon Mahishasura, the king of the area that is currently Mysore, was killed by the Goddess Chamundeswari (also Chamundi) after a fierce battle. The hills hence got their name and a temple of the goddess was built on the top. The goddess is also known as MahishasuraMardini meaning She who slew Mahishasura. The temple has a very beautiful idol of the goddess wearing a garland of skulls. The temple has always been patronised by the rulers of Mysore. In earlier days, the Maharajas of Mysore would ride the ceremonial Dasara elephant during the annual Dasara festival, but after India gained independence, the idol of Goddess Chamundi is taken on an elephant.

next stop was mysore zoo.the mysore zoo is considered to be a royal zoo having some rare species.the length of the track at the zoo is a nice 3.5km stretch.
many animals and birds were in cages.so this spelt disaster atleast for me.cause whenever i used to take photos, the cage pattern used to intervene between the subject.so i have taken very few pics at the zoo.and upon that the sun was shining bright.so highlight burning was another issue.
our suggestion was that again put a conveyer belt.:)

by the time we finished zoo it was nearly 1pm.our next stop was at mysore palace.
u have to keep your cameras and footwear in the stalls.the good thing of camera system was that u give camera,a triplicate is made, one with u one with the authority and one in the locker.u are provided a key and if u lose that then they have duplicates.
1 1/2hrs went in seeing the palace.feet started paining.seeing palace may be after 4 would be rather nice.when i saw palace from the inside i got to see a huge and i mean huge chances of HDRs.but sadly no camera.
after coming out.

had lunch nearby and then went for a view at the state govt sandalwood and silk factory.its included in your tour of city.u know if women are there they are bound to purchase something.great idea indeed.
next stop after lunch was St Philomenas Church.this is a beautiful cathedral church situated in mysore.this was the first time i went inside.again huge opportunity for HDR inside but sadly no photography inside.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3524/3240941956_49d43e675d.jpg
after the church we went to summer palace.and that spot was our fastest spot in terms of viewing.we reached at 4.50pm.it closes at 5pm.so within 10min fast fast viewing.there is nothing much great here.

after this we also went to see the fort of srirangapatnam, which is in fact ruins.so saw that from car,the driver also showed us the tomb of tipu sultan.after that we went to the 1000year old temple Shriranganathswamy Temple.
this temple is very old in terms of architecture and tradition.a beautiful temple.

when i saw very tiny miny activity on this thread,i thought of not posting again and again, each photo and description.just put set link and done.
will put the next day in the initial format.
for the texture of water,it was shot at F11.my cam goes down till that value only.increased the vibrance and saturation by tinch in LR,then levels contrast, unsharp mask in PS.
for the feet shot, its 90% BW with a tinch of sepia.

well well well..
after a l(O)^N NG delay or time whatever..the trip is back.this is the coorg part.
coorg according to INCREDIBLE INDIA campaign is "scotland of INDIA".and it truely is.simply beautiful place.surrounded by coffee plantations and forest.it is an IDEAL "honeymooner" station.and they have some of the most luxurious resorts like orange county, heritage resorts etc.where a night is close to almost 11k.but its worth if u going as a couple.they really take care that you have paid 11k!!
coorg or madikeri as its originally called is a hill station situated in the western ghats.the viewpoints are surrounded the district.so u actually ROAM around coorg.
coorg also offers beautiful homestays.more than hotels homestays make a profit.since its personal and still you get roomservice.so its good.
a must visit for a traveller.
a word of caution from my side.u have to balance out and eat.cause the taxi drivers there are "bhakts" of colin mcrae.born rally drivers.and a straight road around coorg is literally non existant.so imagine u eat heavy breakfast and then go puking to the way to various spots!!:p
places to see are raja seat, abbey falls, irupu falls, bhagamandala, talacauvery, monastery, river camp and others.
like i put it..its IDEAL for HONEYMOONERS..families also.

you welcome KEN.
that overprocessed controversy is going on for centuries.people process a particular photo as per their PP workflow.they post.then other people come on net,see that this photo is crap and ILL PP it.they apply their PP to which the person who thinks his PP looked better slams the new PP one.so this vicious circle is evident in the photo world.everyone is facing the same problem.like i said before,i shoot and process according to my standards.what i feel should me my photo.when i shoot for others i take care that they like it.but when i shoot for myself and process it,well if u like it appreciate it.dont like it i am not stopping you.

ken said that a photostory is indeed nice to read.
well i had time..so ken..ur wish is getting fulfilled!:p
first some story telling.
at coorg we first decided that we will do abbey falls and then catch the bus for udupi.but later while at the room, all four of us discussed that we may miss the bus if we get late at abbey falls.so we decided to scrap the fall plan and go for the 9am bus.
so it was leaving time of coorg.bags packed.a small rickshaw ride to the bus depot(state transport KSRTC) and we all were there in the bus stand.many things were happening at the bus stand.you can fondly remember the topic in HINDI "bus sthanak par ek ghanta".literally there is so much going on that you cant guess how time passes, even if you are wearing a watch.
i and my cousin were standing besides the luggage while the other 2 went for some enquiry.they came back, and as they were coming,a very old fashioned chassis broken surround sound age noise smoky bus was approaching the terminus.that bus was so old that it didnt had any windows.i started teasing that this is the bus..all the other 3 were like "OMG!!!"but it wasnt.
KSRTC has a nice fleet of buses and soon a nice ashok leyland luxury bus came to the udupi platform.when we stepped inside the people in the bus were sort of SHOCKED!they were like 4 kiddos with so much luggage and that too in STATE TRANSPORT??you are kidding me right??
since we had the maximum luggage we decided to go for the rear seats.not the extreme rear but actually the "above wheel" ones.and soon we were gonna pay a price for it.
now here lies the contrast.coorg which is a hill station was our departure.udupi which is a coastal city is down below.that means zig zag zig zag.so while climbing down from coorg i cant remember a single straight road.the road only went the S way or the Z way or the U way.upon that all of the bus drivers are born rally drivers.and upon that EGO.nobody wants to step outside the road.so if i have to hit ur truck ill do it.its cowboy minus the desert.ultimate "mardangi".
we crossed mangalore and it was a furnace.to add more salt, the tyre got punctured.so the driver and the conductor both all sweaty repaired and fixed the puncture by putting a spare.this caused some delay.upon that the highway is under renovation from 2 to 4.so that delayed us further.
at around 2.30pm we reached udupi.udupi is one of the old "bank cities"where many banks have started.also its called as city of temples.
the hotel was walking distance from the depot.went to the hotel, checked in.had true UDUPI thalis and went and just fell on the bed!
taxi was arranged for the beach.
so we are heading for the beach baby!!;)
some info about Malpe beach.
About 6 kms from Udupi is Malpe, an ideal picnic spot with its virgin beach. The endless stretch of golden sand, graciously swaying palm trees, the clear blue sky and the gurgle of the sea all set the perfect mood for an unforgettable holiday here.
Malpe is famed for its silvery beaches that offer breathtaking views of the sea.
though we know that beach means people.and there were a lot!
now the photos start flowing!

we went back near the cab, hoping for some nice coconut water.but to our shock there wasnt a single vendor having coconuts.we were like this is a beach rite??then how come no cocos??
soon we came to know that general stores keep cocos since they own coco trees.so each shop owns and then sells the cocos.pretty nice.
we went back to the hotel, freshened up,ate some awesome fish at dirt cheap rates and retired to the rooms.

day 2 at udupi was a nice go slow one.no hectic running..all at our pace.taxi was waiting for us.first stop St Mary's Island.
St. Mary's isles are group of islands accessible by ferry from Malpe. Vascoda Gama appears to have touched the island in 1498 before he reached Calicut. The Islands are just a few scattered projections of rock rising out of the Arabian Sea round about Malpe. The northern most island is about a square mile in area and not more than 250 yards in width. It has a coconut garden, which makes it the shadiest isle of the group and gives it a true south sea color.
It is noted for its famous basalt rocks, which have crystallized into columns and split into hexagonal mosaic. Perhaps, this is the only spot in India where basaltic rocks show up such peculiar formations.
to go to the island BOAT is the only option.there is a ferry system that takes you to the island.so you pass the beach and enter the port.port in the sense, their fishing port.at the corner is the ferry office.tickets were around 75 per head return fare.ie to and fro.there was one waiting for us.the incharge was yelling at us like "common, hop in".they knew we were coming.
adjacent to where the ferry station is,there is the ship building yard where tugs and small boats are built.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3566/3495782389_1e1f8ca2da.jpg
that was one of the freshly built tugs.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3543/3496603368_a4ffc69817.jpg
the trip involves two boat rides.first is the ferry, the other is the shallow boat ride.so after entering the shallow region, you are transferred to the boat.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3585/3496603860_68330df6fc.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3565/3495786333_6850156136.jpg
nice coco trees greet you.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3537/3495786737_f439009b92.jpg
its a small island.you walk some distance and you face the edge.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3597/3495788161_0545fa04e2.jpg
and again we were greeted by crows.they were enjoying the water minus getting into it.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3575/3495789243_ba22e51af6.jpg
this is not a Beach per se but an island.the edge is shallow for some distance and before you know it goes real real deep!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3301/3495789929_8729d7ec36.jpg
now when one solid meets one liquid what we get??? SPLASH!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3617/3495791119_f8445c240c.jpg
just to show you where the splash is happening..

now as a photographer the scene was just stunning.rocks, splash everything.but there were some negative factors that i perceived.SUN was the first one.we were there at around 12noon,peak heat time.second was the sheer power that the waves had.mind you it was the start of the high tide.so again power at its peak.also we were on an ISLAND which did not had any medical facilities.so god forbid if something happens, only boats can help us.so dropped the shoot idea.

the beach is not a sand one but a shell one.the whole area is covered with shells and corals ripped to pieces and time over, they have formed this compact soft yet firm beach.so was busy with my sises collecting shells.
it was returning time.

observe the boat's ladder.we are in the waves, the ladder is steep, upon that only one side to hold.getting wet is guaranteed.

udupi Krishna temple is known popularly as Krishna Mutt or Krishna Matha of Udupi. The Krishna Mutt was founded by the Vaishnavite saint Shri Madhvacharya in the 13th century. He was the founder of the Dvaita school of Vedanta.
Legend has it that once Kanakadasa, a worshipper who was so pious and devoted to Lord Krishna, was not allowed entry into the temple. It didn't upset him, but instead made him pray with intense devotion. Lord Krishna was so pleased that he made the statue of himself turn around to allow the disciple to gaze upon his heavenly form through a small window at the back of the mutt (monastery). Till today, devotees still worship Lord Krishna by praying through the same window that Kanakadasa was blessed with a view.
i had one incident here.the temple has tight security.so checking goes on of baggage and stuff.i had my tripod with me.one lady took my bag while the man took the tripod.he opened the tripod chain, and saw the stand.what he thought was the stand was for a machine gun.so his eyes were startled.he started questioning, what is this and that...fortunately the lady saw the camera and said its for the camera.to which the male personnel had sigh of relief.
final day of the trip.
our train was at 3.30. we had one contact in UDUPI.we met and he made arrangements to show us the famous local dairy.after that we went into the anatomy and pathology meuseum.not for faint hearted.watching horror movies is childs play in front of actually seeing flesh first hand.ofcourse no photos.:p
then checked out the manipal university.pretty slick and trendy.
around 2 we left the hotel and proceeded for the station.the station is a small one and is on the Konkan Railway section.nice and clean.waited for our train to arrive.

as i was looking at the sun setting,it felt the journey is coming to an end.felt really sad.it was back to reality situation.again studies, college, tension, stress, not LIFE but monotonous LIFE.the 9 days that i experienced here in the trip was a different LIFE.
but then another thought came to my mind.the sun sets.but it rises also.a new beginning, new opportunities.so there will many more such trips in LIFE.you gotta take out time and explore LIFE.it doesnt come to you.you have to go to it and experience it.sitting in a air conditioned cubicle and wandering and pondering on travel sites isnt life.showing off those rings and necklaces isnt LIFE.LIFE is a journey.not a conveyer belt where the end is predecided.you Decide your life. You live for You first and then for those who are close to you.not for those who tell how good you are and how better they are.
ITS YOURS LIFE.not theirs.you choose how you live it.
out of 1101 shots these are the 321 that defined my trip.
it was an experience.
thanks for viewing.

Those were some extremely pleasing shots, Anvancy. They sure are letting your talent shine through. :)

I wish you had a UWA close up of the boat. In those settings, it'd have looked wonderful!

Quite a few stunning shots Anvancy. I liked the 13th and 14th shots the most in the previous post. I suppose quite a few of them are single file HDRs. Correct me if I am wrong. If not, the kind of treatment you are giving them is pretty interesting. Qualify as experimental I feel.
Most of the Rock and Sea photographs are pretty stunning. Thanks for sharing.

I am quite perplexed then. Unable to figure things out!
And that is quite a crowd there with the boats. And the flags look quite similar too. Quite few look like our national tricolour!
