The D800 will reportedly feature a 36 megapixel sensor, dual memory card slots, USB 3.0, an LCD screen larger than three inches, 1080p high-definition video capture, according to an earlier Nikon Rumors report. The D800 would also be lighter than the 2.18-pound D700.

If the reported specs are accurate, the D800 would be significant step up from the D700, which features a 12.1 megapixel sensor, CompactFlash card slot, 3-inch TFT-LCD display, GPS, and USB port. The D700 does not have a video function, although some creative workarounds have been developed.

If those rumored specifications are true than it simply doesn't replace d700 .Infact it will cost around $4000 or something which is much higher in comparison to the price of d700.16mp would have been right ,but 36mp will be an overkill for most of us .

91,000 pixel sensor for metering, white balance, flash exposure, face detection and active d-lighting.....

It means that it has hybrid AF system - contrast + phase detection AF...

Don't know about the price or the actual specifications! I put it there just for Anvay, who might just get converted to a Nikonian with the release of D800! :p (Sometimes, I just go on an optimistic overdrive! :D)

Not exactly, for someone looking for a cheaper alternative to a Hasselblad or PhaseOne (wrong comparison on many fronts, but still... Purists, geeks - please spare me!).

I am rather interested in the next D8K. I am in that market who does not need FPS.who does not need Ethernet.Who does not need dual Card slots. and all that the D4 has. I just want the sensor and the stripped down processor of the D4 on the D8K and its all good.

D8000. D800 is still for Pros. D8000 will be a definite hit.
