Good job Robin. This is not your quality of course... The WB is not right etc...

Liked 4, 6, and the woman holding the banner. News reporting like this is very hard work. You have to be in the middle of the action, in the thick of it and get close up action shots with a 16mm kinda lens! I know this is not a critique thread, but I am saying this for your work.

Hope you do not mind.

But thanks for sharing.

Hi Robin,
Good work done. You have captured the essence of the moment. That is more important than anything else like composition or lighting. Proper post processing can enhance these pictures.

Oh boy, you came back here and posted after 4 months. Good one.

Thanks for sharing Robin. Do show us some of your world class work from this event.

Hi Robin,

Henry

I have been involved with photojournalists for a good part of my life, people who have been Pullitzer winners (John McConnico, with AP), nominees, Saurabh Das, (twice nominated and winner of various other journalism awards across the planet) very close friend of mine. When you are shooting events like these on the spot, or games in a stadium or in a war you really do not have time to "post process". They are uploading on to the server from the scene of action as you might be aware. I know that in the back-end, someone does edit. But even for that, there is not much time to post process too many elements. Composition has to be near perfect, WB and light conditions as well. I know that we are not a reporting agency. But I am saying this for the sake of people who are making the effort of going on site, shooting and sharing, that they be aware of how to make better shots on the spot.

These are some of the finest event-documenting photos I've ever seen. You're right in the middle of the action, capturing both the actual scenes and the spirit of the scene.

Excellent work.

Btw in your very first shot the person to the right holding the card, the right hand of his is in color, the left is BW.:p

It could be the result of different color light source illuminating it. Maybe a flash for different camera. If you notice carefully, it is not black&white but proper skin tone, where as the rest of the picture is yellow. The camera may be balance to flash.

If if look at all the pictures in the first session, they are lit by two different light sources. One yellow (sodium vapour) and the other bluish white (halogen). And the camera was white balance to halogen.

I was present again at Freedom Park, Bangalore, today, to try and capture the movement. Thanks to Devaiah Sir and Henry for the tips. I will try harder the next time I attend. :)

To be more specific, in your work, 5,7 and 10 are the best. Use this as a guiding factor. See the works of the AP photographers on the previous page and you will have an idea of which direction to go. Also look at some of Robin's work.

Thanks a lot Henry & Krishnendu Sir!

I was there again today. However, there was not much 'action' as compared to yesterday. There were many people in attendance, listening to the speakers, but today very few groups turned up with placards and banners. As a result, I could not get shots like yesterday. Maybe the timing of my visit was wrong.

I'm sharing just two photos for today. I remember the first AP photo that was posted here by Krishnendu Sir. I saw the same intense expressions on people's faces here. But, while trying to capture them, I was at a disadvantage with 3.3x optical zoom, and I couldn't get any closer. A voice in my head kept reprimanding "do NOT blame your gear!"

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-cEaoLoi4zTw/TlewtFAh7mI/AAAAAAAAAls/WZRV8wj6uis/s640/IMG_1505.JPG
