Name: Vicky

Equipment: Canon: EOS 400D, 28-105mm USM II, 50mm f/1.8, 70-300mm IS USM. Sigma: 18-50mm f/2.8 EX, 18-200mm OS. Misc: 430EX, BG-E3, OC-E3, EF-12 Ex Tube, 72 & 58mm Hoya CLP's, Lowepro Nova 3 AW, Cheapo Tripod, Panasonic FZ5 Ultrazoom

Favorite Subjects (of Photography): I love all the different forms of photography and want to try out and learn as many different forms as possible. My current favorites being Landscapes, Portraits, Wildlife, Birds, Still Life, Macro, Creative Lighting, Celestial & Experimental

A Little Background: Its been a while since the photography bug bit me.. I was intrigued enough by Digital Photography in 2001 that I bought my first Digital Camera – The 1.3mp Samsung Digimax 130 for SG $700 along with a 128MB CF Card for SG $90!! (Almost 22k Indian) Shortly afterward, I got married and photography took a backseat. Then in 2005, things got moving again when I bought my second Digital Camera, the lovely Panasonic FZ5. In early 2007, I stepped into the DSLR world with the 400D kit. Over this period, I’ve clicked more than 40k photos, and believe it or not, I’m still learning with each new photo. Photography for me is the medium to express and share my vision. I believe, you first see a photo with your mind, and then you capture it with your camera....

I strive to stretch beyond my boundaries, try new things, experiment with new techniques, basically, do the unconventional...

Some of my photos..

Portrait - My little boy, Yash
(A high key portrait processed like a pencil drawing effect)

Still Life - My Spinning World
(A long exposure shot from a spinning merry-go-round in Genting Hills, Malaysia)

Macro - Dew Drop Reflections
(Reflection of a flower in a dew drop of 2mm diameter)

Experimental - Colorful Rain Drops
(Pentaprism effect of shooting rain drops in the night with off-camera flash at 45' angle to the lens axis)

Welcome to thePhotographer!

The last two photos above are very good. I like the fact that you dare to think and implement out of the box. That is something very rare. Hope to gain lots of knowledge from you. Perhaps to can start a new thread in PhotoTechniques [Experimental] (http://www.thephotographer.in/darkroom/forumdisplay.php?f=58) on how you managed the raindrops photograph?

Hey Vicky! Welcome.

From the equipment up above there, I have feeling that you are a professional photographre though I have not yet checked your profile. (Your profession column remains vacant.)

A couple of questions though:

1. What is the f-opening of your 70-300mm IS USM?
2. Could you please explain to us more in detail, in the relevant heading, the 4th photograph and then subsequently share with us your experimental work and the techniques used, which doubtlessly seem interesting?

Thanks.

I'm glad you liked the photos.

Like I said, I strive for variety and keep trying different stuff... but the results are not always so rewarding;) However, I've learnt not to be disappointed when I don't get the desired results... coz even a failed attempt teaches you something - It teaches you not to follow this route the next time you try! The good thing about photography is that the scope is so vast that you'll never run out of things to shoot:)

Learning and sharing is what these forums are all about... I've seen your work and simply love the crispy feel in your photos. Would love to learn from your style..

Please don't go by the equipment list... many friends have told me before that I have way more equipment than talent:o

Photography for me is purely a hobby. This is one of the few things that I do only for my own pleasure and satisfaction:) Over the years, I have got a few offers for purchase/use of some my work, but I've either declined a sale or gave it away for free:p I somehow don't feel comfortable with the idea of selling my work :(

As for my profession, I own an IT Hardware distribution business based in Guwahati.

As for my 70-300, its the Canon 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM. Not really pro stuff, but pretty decent lens. (Pros - great optics, good reach, very sharp, lovely 4stop IS system, small size & light weight, affordable price, EF mount- so full frame ready. Cons - slow apertures, slow focus speed, average build, too much free play in the manual focus ring)

I don't know who your friends are. I would like to know though. But having seen some of your work, I pretty much like it.

Thanks for the precisions.

This was actually supposed to be a light hearted joke on myself... perhaps I should've used a < :p > to convey the idea better:)

Went through your photo stream and really liked your style. Especially loved the portrait of the old lady. Awesome capture:) Would love to try my hand at post processing that one..
