The Photo Fair has begun in New Delhi from today the 8th of January and will continue for 4 days till the 11th of January, Sunday. It is taking place in the Pragati Maidan premises, in Halls 8,9,10,11. Like most fairs, morning hours are for business visitors and afternoons are open to public.

I have just got back from my nearly 7 hour jaunt.

This is my first experience at such a place and I must say, that it was interesting to see international quality brands available for testing and use and sales to the common public. You can actually touch and test and use the Nikon D3X, which was released on the 1st of December worldwide.

The Canon 5D MkII was there for using and testing as well.

There are a plethora of exhibitors from a lot of places including Manfrotto from Italy. And a lot of exhibits are for sale at 20% less than the MRP only for these 4 days. I have been lustily eyeing a 055XDB from Manfrotto and a 804RC2 head. For people interested in Macro, I checked the prices of the MP-E available for 53K with full service warranty internationally. A ring flash from Canon was available for 32K.

And when you go to such a place, you almost necessarily end up meeting either aspiring photographers or big name photographers and get glimpses of them... overall this was an exciting experience. And I might even go back there.

There goes my dream to own an MP-E! :p

Thanks for sharing the information regarding the photofair. The ring flash is something that I would love to get my hands on. And it's really good to know that one can go ahead and use the said equipment to get a feel for the actual product before buying it!

P.S:
Is the ring flash and the MP-E accessible to the general public? If I do go there, will I be allowed to use the MP-E or the ring flash or perhaps both? ;)

Actually no! They are letting you use a lot of other premium products for the public to come and use. But ofcourse, if you want to actually intend to buy the ring flash, they will let you do as much of testing with the MP-E as you wish. And BTW, they also have the small twin flashes, I am not sure if that is also for Macro use.

Thank you guys for posting the pictures! I visited the photofair with Leon and JB this afternoon/ evening and it was a good experience overall. Got to use some decent lenses from both the major manufcaturers present at the fair (Canon and Nikon).

Also, got to see and 'fee' many expensive equipments which perhaps I will never be able to purchase..:p Overall, it was a great experience sans a little too crowded for my liking. Every Tom, Dick & Harry just seemed on a clicking spree on some of the most expensive cameras present at the stalls, which was scary, really..:D

Thanks Sunny for posting the photographs. As one can see... there was a lot to see, feel and check out. Notable mentions have already been made about the first 35mm format 24.5MP DSLR camera with FF sensor from Nikon.

Another interesting part was the Olympus p&s cameras which were presented under a water cascade and under 3cms water as well as you can check out from photographs. Samsung's offer was nubile glossy girls carrying less glossy equipment attracting the most crowd as is often the case in this glossy-girl-hungry parts of the world. Though no degeneration was noticed.

Manfrotto are giving SUPERB deals. They are quoting close to 30% southwards of the MRP only for the fair. Sunny procured a Lowepro, as I did book my first real piece of beautiful strong muscular sexy legs from Manfrotto with a three way intelligent head as well!

Met members from thePhotographer.in at the show, notably Trance nut.

It is still on tomorrow. My word... Do go and have a look. And carry some extra cash; 5-10K. You might end up buying something really worthwhile.

@Sunny: Despite being severely handicapped with the wrong choice of lens, you seemed to have done a fairly good job of covering the event.

Corrigendum: The Steadycam was initially innovated I figure to eliminate the cumbersome use of the Dolly. This happened in the late 70s and was first tried on action TV serials. One of the extensive initial uses of the steadycam in feature production was seen in a movie called Marathon Man(1976) with Dustin Hoffman, if I am not mistaken, and as the name suggests, a lot of outdoor running sequences were shot using this contraption. True, Pulp Fiction had a Lot of hand held steadycam sequences... but I made an error saying that it was one of the first ones.

Was the Canon 50D or 5D Mark2 on display? If yes, any idea on the Indian prices?

Yes they were on display. Sunny and I even tried them out. Sunny is floored by the 5D's video capabilities, interchangeable lenses Full HD... etc... 156000 approx in India. At the fair it was available for 141000 with full service backup. 50D I am not sure.
