From where did you clicked the pictures?

From where did you click the pictures?
Seems like a window or the terrace of a building
Anyway, nice shots. Liked the 3rd and the 4th ones the most. The 5th one would have been the best if not for the branches of the tree spoiling the view.
p.s : Did you use the AI Servo autofocus mode?

Clicked the shots from my house balcony on 4th floor. Some 100m away from main road.
In a some shots I used AI Servo mode.

Those look OOF but practice makes perfect. I guess you should try One Shot, since you are yourself following the vehicles with the camera.

@Powerslave: OOF? I think they are a bit blurry due to camera being hand held and slow shutter speed. I did used both "One Shot" and "AI Servo" mode.

Nice pics, the last two are well focussed - the first two have a slight blur! I guess fast shutter speeds are essential here to freeze motion of your subject, the background gets blurred anyways as you pan the camera.
Has anyone tried / used the Focus lock function in these situations? Need to try it out.
Btw - APMSC and the yamaha guys are organizing a 1/4 mile drag event next weekend at the airport. Am most likely going to show up there with the same equipment (400D + 70-200 f/4 L) and click lots of panning pics :)

Do click lots of pictures.
1.If you do get very good quality pictures you can start a thread as fresh news of the event.
2.And if you manage to get good panning shots there, you can continue to update this thread with those. If this thread evolves, it might be renamed appropriately once there is sufficient high quality pictures available.
Thanks.

Noob questions here!!!
Have a few doubts..
How to Pan Objects in broad daylight??? n which mode will be better.. Tv Av Or M???
Shutter priority wont work as the photo will get overexposed.. what about the aperture settings??? should it be low or high???

Suggestions please....
I liked your Bicycle photo the best. Subject is in clear focus and giving good notion of motion. According to me 2nd best was the Innova overtaking the Honda. The Honda is in clear focus. I wish the Innova was too!
In the truck pan shot, I feel there is no clear subject. The rest do not appear striking to me.

Hey thanks for the prompt reply!
I like the cycle shot the best too. Since this was my first experiment, there is a lot more that I have to learn :)
As for the Innova and Civic, its the Civic that attempted the overtake (from the wrong side) and managed to sneak past. Will post more shots as I experiment more...

Hey thanks for the prompt reply!
Look at some athletics photographs from the Olympic Games. You will see a lot of panning photographs and you will learn a lot from there. Ofcourse also a lot from F1 too. Try to get powerful angles of your subject. Try to make your subject "larger" than life.
